Question with 1997 Prelude rpm.

i just recently bought a 1997 prelude. When i'm on the hwy at 80 mph the rpm goes up to 4000. I was wondering if it was normal for the rpm to be that hight at 80 mph. This is my first prelude and i'm just wondering if its a normal thing or not. Does anyone know.

it sounds pretty normal. i mean usually youd be pushing 8000 to be flying down the raod. but 4000 at 80 sounds about normal. as long as nothing sounds wrong with the car id let it go. if something sounds out of place, id get it checked out

Re: Question with 1997 Prelude rpm.

I have a 4th gen but i believe that is normal for a 5th gen. The redline is set higher as in a v8 that would be a very lower geared car or slow :D

yes its normal, h22 transmissions have short gears to help with acceleration, sucks for cruising on the highway though.
