rear sway bar endlink loose?

hey everyone. so for some time now (more than a month) i've had my aftermarket rear sway bar (suspension techniques) on my lude. one of the endlink was loose. so heres the story

1. i bought a used sway bar + endlinks
2. i instaled with a friend, few minutes after i drive it i hear a clunk or a bang noise
3. turned out endlink was f**ked up
4. i go 2 mechanic with my stock endink and he put on thestock endlink on the aftermarket sway bar
5. now the noise comes back

so im wondering, if its ok to put a oem endlink with a aftermaret sway bar. i don want this problem again but i dont want to pay 90 bucks for a stupid endlink. any suggestions or help please?

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

how long did it take for the noise to come back? when does the noise occur? does it sound like a rattling sometimes going over repetitive bumps? get under there and check it out. check for anything loose. here is a good way to figure it out. with a friend, jack the car up in the back. not by the suspension, you want it to have no load what so ever. have a friend move the wheel up and down like as if you're going over bumps. place your hand on the endlinks. if you feel any play its your endlinks.

also something to make sure is that your sway bar is installed properly. take a look at your bushing supports for your sway bar also. i've heard of them coming loose. and i've also had my actually crack because my bar was installed wrong.

stock endlinks are about the weakest link to the preludes suspension. they are horrible for aftermarket bars. should get yourself some custom ones.

also wouldn't go with the progress endlinks. they suck. i had them. started to rattle on me after a month. you want some quality endlinks you're gonna have to spend some money.

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

i have a progress rear sway bar.... the stock endlinks could not handle it and ended up breaking in less then a month. i know 71dsp on preludeonline makes custom endlinks...but are very pricey. i made my own and they work out fine.... there are tons of right ups on pp and po. the other choice is jegs... they actually sell... links w/ heim joints that have various lengths.

first tiem i installed the noise started after a minute. after i got the mechanic to put on another stock endlink the sound came bak in a few minutes. it sounds like a thumping noise whenever i go over bumps or someything. now the noise turned out to be more of a crackling/stretching noise. the stock endlink and the aftermarket endlink looks EXAQCTLY the same. same size/width/height and everything.

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

nah i dont think so, i think the previous owner of the car just used oem end links, which is wierd it wasnt this bad...it use to be over bumps, then i made a hard turn one night and made a lot of noise..turned out i broke the driverside rear bracket, so i replaced that one and the passanger side with new bushing as well, hoping to fix the problem but that wasnt it =x

my car feels like its swinging back and forth in the rear to..

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

I have an oem sway bar with energy suspension end link bushes and they make a noise too..but thats just the sacrifice you have to make for having polyurethane bushes..but the noise that your talking about sounds like a dodgy end link..get it up on a ramp and push/pull the sway bar up and down and see where the noise is coming from..but generally if you have aftermarket sway bars you should go for uprated endlinks and bushes

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

This is the EXACT noise i am hearing just driving straight

so im positive it has to be an endlink, i thought it would be my exhaust banging..guess im wrong.

so now this is my problem, and i contacted 71dsp about making me endlinks but he said wait til may unless i want to source the parts myself.

now is it ok if i were to spend the $90 or w.e to get the endlinks so i can make the noise go away until it comes back and hopefully by then 71dsp makes endlinks at the time?

Or is there endlinks i should use that wont make the clunking noise.

I remember i jacked the car up at the jack points under the car and tried to move the sway bar..it doesnt reallly move? il try again tomorrow.

- Cliff notes, the video above is the same sound im hearing
- 99% Sure its my endlinks.
- What endlinks should i use if it is them, until 71dsp makes new ones again, or should i try some that are better or the same as 71dsp without the clunking noise?

Re: rear sway bar endlink loose?

about the only other option is to buy a new set of OEM ones.. and just take it easy.

i've never seen endlinks THAT BAD before. that's horrible. usually the movement you get is not visible to the naked eye. which i suspect is what you're having if you can't get it to move doing the same thing as the video. one way to know for sure if its your endlink is to have a friend help you out. jack up the back end of the car, the whole back end, not just one side. put jack stands under the jack points. either you or your friend take a good grasp of the back wheel on which ever side the noise seems to be coming from. (if you're not sure do both) move the wheel up and down compressing the suspension. the more abruptly you do it the more likely you'll get a noise out of it. if you move it to slow you won't get a noise usually. if you can't duplicate the noise doing this i don't know what to tell you, but suspension probably isn't your problem. if you start to get a noise, have the person continue shaking the wheel up and down while the other person listen and most importantly FEEL for the noise. start with the endlinks obviously. it may help to take the wheel off. its just that much less weight to throw around. plus i thought it was easier to do it with out the wheel myself.
