Stock intake or AEM short ram intake

Ok, so i been reading some good reviews about K & N air filter, so im thinking should i just keep my stock intake and just replace the air filter with a K & N air filter, or should i wait and get a total upgrade to a AEM short ram intake. I heard short rams are sh*tty, is this true? I would get a complete aem intake but i wouldnt want my vehicle hydrolocking. So, replace air filter or short ram? i have a 5th gen prelude. in white :) * also im looking for better gas mileage and better performance and such, so which one would be better?

Re: Stock intake or AEM short ram intake

Short rams really do not improve MPG or performance over your stock system... with a k&n filter in your stock box you might actually show better gains in both over a short ram. Where do you live that you are so worried about your engine hydro locking from having a full cold air system? I would get a PRM intake, it is very easy to make the change from full cold air to short ram on rainy days. PRM INTAKES look it over and you will understand why.

Re: Stock intake or AEM short ram intake

Im a fan of the stock intake, as its natively a cold feed. Have you thought about getting a "Type-S" intake? Then you can use the K & N filter as well. Plus you dont need to tell your insurance company as they wouldnt know the difference between a normal lude intake and the "Type-S" intake.

Changing the intake from stock may cause you to loose abit of low down torque since your not using the air chambers in the wing. If your wanting better gas milage then aftermarket intakes wont help you IMO, they suck more air in at lower RPM's than the stock intake, you will notice the aftermarket intake making more noise below 4K.
