blow off valve----bad???

hey wats up guys. after reading a bunch of stuff about turbos and etc. a few people kept saying that a blow off valve is very bad for your engine so they recommend keeping an intake instead of a blow off valve. what do u guys think?

From what I know blow off valves are good and kind've a necessity when you get to higher boost levels. What the bov does is release air once you let off the throttle usually during a shift. before The moment when you let off the boost builds up and when you let off it has nowhere to go over charging the intake tract and putting increased back pressure on the turbo.a bov releases this pressure, so what a bov does besides make that nice noise is reduce strain and excess wear on your engine. They are good... Let's hope I'm correct and not just a complete idiot…it happens though

thats almost entirely correct. except it reduces the wear on the TURBO, cuz w/o the BOV, the air has no where to go except back into the turbo and spins it BACKWARDS, which is called compressor surge and is very, VERY bad for your turbo!

and to the OP... whoever told you that is an idiot.
