TEIN or D2

Hey guys i'm looking for some new supsension for my 1998 Base model. Don't know which one i should get. I'm choosing between the TEIN Flex or the D2 RACING SPORTS RS 36 WAY. There's a huge difference in the price. The Flex are a few hundred dollars more. If it's worth it for the perfomance i'll get them. Which one do you guys think i should get? I was also thinking of the TEIN Super Street. Your help will be much appreciated.

What are your plans for the car? If you are doing autoX or time attack with it then I wouldn't worry about either ones. I would go with a custom Koni Yellow and Ground control set up, even if you are just using the car as a daily driver that is still what I would do. Money to performance value is their and ask any SCCA member or solo racer and they will tell you the same thing. And they will be cheaper then the flexes or the d2's

Ground Control Sleeves

Koni Yellows

For me I had Takico Blue with Tein H, Ksport, Ground Control with Koni, and Tein SS before. The most I like it, is Tein SS. It's worh!

Re: TEIN or D2

Why would you buy such an expencive high performance set up if you are not going to track it? Just so you can say you have the? I'm confused. I mean it's your car and wallet so if that's what you want then go for it but I would save my money and get what I reccomended or even get the funtion and for type II's for I believe 1000 shipped if they still have that deal going.

if its a daily i would spend the extra dough and get the teins. they are most performance based suspension w/ such a stock feel.

I have a question... in the details of the koni's it specifically says DO NOT USE WITH EIBACH SPRINGS.

Anyone know if that's for just the springs and not the sleeves? I'm confused.

Re: TEIN or D2

I want the TEINs just for performance everyday driving. There might just be that day where i want to drive aggressively. and yes, I also want them just to say I have them. When you have money you can do things like that. I hope that clears up any confusion. Thanks for all the great feed back guys!

Over 90% of the Preludes running AutoX are running the Koni Yellow with GC setup. It's not a problem.

Alright, thanks. I'll probably look into that once I save up enough for 'em.

That is weird though.

I thought the same thing, but so many people have recommended that setup eventually that's what I will get.

Re: TEIN or D2

I don't see why it's wierd. It's a fantastic setup with all the adjustability of the Teins, without the high dollar entry price.

Re: TEIN or D2

I guess since all these guys winning national champions with Koni/Ground Contol set ups just dont know what is going on and need to switch to Tein so they can be more hip and cool.

- I heart tein suspension!

I still would suggest the Function & Form type II coilovers as well
I have read several reviews from type r owners to s2000 owners that love them for their daily driving comfort and ability to hold thier own at the track as well.

If you want Tein go ahead and blow a few extra hundred bucks for their name.

Here is the page for information on the type II set.

F2autolife

Now understand I am not dissing on Tein by any means. They are a great company and make a great product. I used to want the flex set up so bad that I would have ****ed Jocelyn Wildenstein if she bought me a set.... but then I did my research.
I just feel like they are over priced for what you get. I wouldn't give a **** if I was Bill Gates I'm not going to pay a penny more for a product that isn't any better or possibly worse then something I can get cheaper.

But in all reality when it comes to daily and spirited driving why pay for that name. When people ask you why you decided to go with Tein instead of something else I really hope you have something better to say then "When you have money you can do things like that."

Look guys I am someone that plays on mountain roads on a regular basis. Don't you think I'm going to know a thing or two about keeping my car on the road? Remember where Kevin and I go all the time. I've done a lot of research on suspension and know what's up. I would aslo buy a Progress rear sway bar and end links and a good set of sticky tires and if you don't have strut tower bars then get them. In this case I would suggest Explicit Speed Performance, mainly for their 4-point rear, along with their Traction Bar System and mounts. ESP

Re: TEIN or D2

right now im runnin skunk2 springs and kyb agx's this setup is ok but im already ready for something better. dont get me wrong this setup is great for daily driving, and i can turn the struts up when i go to the gap. but i just want more adjustability and a better setup, so that i can keep up with the rwd boys in the mountains. i do plan on getting the function form type II's.

Re: TEIN or D2

I gotta go with BB2's opinion on this one... he always vouches for Koni and GC, and people who listen to him generally are happy with the purchase. I've heard this from more than one person that he's guided too. I personally just have KYB struts and Eibach springs, so I can't say much about Tein, Koni, etc. But he knows what he's talking about.

Just backing BB2 up here, but I've heard a lot of good things about the F2 setups as well, and am seriously considering them for when the time comes for me to be purchasing suspension.
