definately not maaco. just keep saving and get a good legit paint job. it'll just end up fading in like a year or two anyway (thats what happened with my dads old truck, but it was a beater anyway so didnt really matter)

Re: My List of stuff...

it was just a silver. and pretty cheap haha. they really are garbage though. i've heard horror stories, and I've seen some first hand fukc ups they've done. overspray everywhere, horrible tape lines, all that. it would maybe come out good if you prepped it yourself (tape it, scuff it, the rest of the masking) I might be bias because I went to school for autobody, but I'd rather trust a legit shop

mixing paint is the easiest thing (not being a dick) but the actual spraying takes some real skill. I can see where you're coming from though. if you gotta do maaco, go for it. just don't cheap out on it lol

Re: My List of stuff...

I've heard way too many "don't go to maaco" "you know better than to go to maaco don't you" comments.. do not even bother dude. Get the paint job done right the first time. If you can't afford a whole paint job, a good one, and you're worried about the car's condition in the meantime, we can talk about how to touch up and fix minor body issues.

The thing about painting a car yourself is that to really do it right you need a bunch of days and an indoor location + sprayer, or a spray booth. I've heard that you can rent them. Painting your car is 90% prep work, 10% actual work. If you prep it right it comes out right every time. I know of a guy who did his sideskirts outside and used a special cloth to pick up lint, etc. which you get on your paint as a result of painting outside, but I wouldn't recommend a whole paint job outside if you can help it. Then you have to have the time to do it, and the time to let the car sit. It takes primer, color and clear coat after you've sanded it down.

The other thing is, do you have damage to your car you need repaired before the paint job? I have a few scratches and scrapes, a big ass gray line on my driver's side door from an ex who keyed my car after I dumped him (Never let a guy/girl know how much you love your car unless you trust them not to damage it! SERIOUSLY). A small rust spot on the hood from a nasty rock, a small rust area around the wheel well... and last but not least, a fricken rust issue in the trunk from a water leak. These are things that are best done by a body shop, IMO. So I'm going to be pricing out shops in the area. But you get what you pay for. I expect to pay 1500-2000 for my paint job. If I pay less that's great but I highly doubt I will get a cheap price because I'm looking for factory, good-as-new work. I'm not sure what they'll charge me for the little body clean-up issues.

In other words, a good paint job will take your entire budget...

If you want a nice cheap upgrade for your car, get JDM fogs. Mine are sitting in front of me on the desk atm, waiting for wire harness and wiring, etc... it is probably the single BEST aesthetically pleasing upgrade you can do to your car.

Anyway, in short... most people I think will agree on the fogs.

Here's a guy who did up his 'lude very nicely, the one who painted his sideskirts outside:

A little long, but a good read.

Happy 'luding!

Re: My List of stuff...

maaco will do a good job for you if you prep it for paint. if not it comes out garbage. my bro has a maaco job on his CRX and it looks like ****. they dont even paint everything. Dont get that header its garbage. if you want the most power go with a tri-Y header. Best bang for your buck. get a different clutch. Stage one=OEM replacement

ftr that akapreludesh he's on here...just putting that out there.

Anyways enough about maaco we could talk about it for days( as has been done before...) just google up maaco and do the research and decide for yourself. but be warned googling maaco is a little like googling Rota...you don't always find non-bias enough if you know what I mean...

Anyways. If you looking to do some things on a budget you should look into changing the gauge cluster's color. Its super duper easy and well worth it if you continue to follow the same color scheme. Then you can do the climate control and cruise buttons too. Total cost for all of those leds will come to close to $60 IIRC. I know that it was like $20 for the leds for the cluster and close to $34 for the climate, but I haven't done the cruise buttons and such yet...

Also you didn't mention If you're focus is with just the exterior/engine so I'm going to continue my advice with the interior, as that's what I found to be the best use of my small budget. As I was saying, if you don't already have the carbon fiber trim kit, it is honestly the one thing that changed my interior the most. Add in a jdm gauge bezel and its sexiness all around.

Well that all I got for now soooo......

If your stock radiator isn't broke, leave it.
Unless you're doing a 2.5" collector mod, get a stock header for free or really cheap. That header you posted is the same thing but looks shiney for a month before it looks as bad as the stock one, and then you don't have a cover for it like the stock one has.

If you change plug wires, change the plugs too.

Maaco is very hit or miss. If you just need a refresher paint job, they're okay. If you need some body work done like fiberglassing, bondo, etc. I'd rather pay a 1st grader to do it.
If you buy your own paint, Nason is good and fairly priced. They're made by DuPont so you know it's pretty dependable.

stock radiator is broke.. i had a civic 1/2 size in there for a temp, and i was going to get some ngk's or something. but i like the look of blued headers...
what where would be a "better place" for a s.s. header? and what about a Ram clutch?

Re: My List of stuff...

The clutch and flywheel setup you are looking at is WAAAAAAY over priced...

Get an Exedy Stage 1 clutch and a Fidanza 8 lb flywheel... I got both together for like under 300 I believe.

Edit:
Sorry, I meant the clutch kit in your original post, not the one you just posted...

I don't know much about that one, but I can personally vouch for the Exedy stage 1 and 8lb fidanza flywheel...

False... from a REPUTABLE clutch company, Stage 1 is not an OEM replacement
