Re: my oil light keeps coming on

well if your ecu is detecting low oil pressure and you have full oil, its either a false signal from the oil pressure sensing unit. or your oil system is got to much sludge and needs a cleaning. i can't say its one or the other but its a good bet your oil system needs a cleaning. usually some seafoam will help clean out your oil system. put about 1/3 bottle of it in your oil cap, run it for about as long as a full tank of gas lasts and then change your oil. if that doesn't help i'd start looking into other things like your pressure sensing unit. if i'm not mistaken, its that plug right next to your oil filter.

what kind of oil do you run by the way and how often do you change it? if you're not using synthetic you should probably start. and even though the manual says you can go 7500 miles with out an oil change, i still wouldn't recommend it. especially on conventional oil. conventional oil breaks down and turns to sludge if you don't change it often. synthetic oil you can go to 7500 miles.

yes. if your ecu is recieving a low oil pressure signal, your vtec won't work.

Re: my oil light keeps coming on

Go to Autozone and look for an Engine Flush. That'll knock out alot of the sludge.

Re: my oil light keeps coming on

i recently had this problem and i put "Restore" in as a oil additive, you can find it at walmart, it is a silver can with a pop top (like a soda can) and they have 4 cylender, 6 cylender, and 8 cylender, get the 4 cylender can, and put the entire can in.....SHAKE IT WELL BEFORE USE if you use it!

it helped fix my problem =)

Re: my oil light keeps coming on

yeah change it after you put the additive in your oil.. drive around for like 250 miles of a full tank of gas then change the oil so it gets a chance to break the sludge down

NO!!!!

it is suggested on the can that when you change the oil then add it then drive the 5,000-10,000 miles before your next change!!! put it in on your next oil change....trust me, it works best that way...a

Check your oil cooler seal (O-ring) might have a gigantic leak.

I have a question I'm having the same problems I have a 99 prelude the hole motor has been rebuilt it has new oil pump and oil sending unit and I can see the oil cerculate in the motor and it has a fresh oil change only has 350 mile on rebuild and my oil light keeps on coming on wen it idles and some time wen u drive it or get it to about 1500 rpms the light will go away and sometimes it jus blinks but I've also noticed that the car doesn't have as much power and when I hit 5000 rpms it will die out kind and fall on it's face and vtec won't kick in and some time wen I'm at a red light it'll idle down and die anyone know what would cause this to happen?

Re: my oil light keeps coming on

Most "motor flush" additives are not to be driven while using. You put it in prior to changing oil and let it idle a while and then drain (Do Not Drive). Engine Restore is totally different. It has additives that are supposed to fill in grooves and scratches in the cylinders and bearing surfaces to help seal better and increase oil pressure. It sounds good but articles out there say most of the particles are caught in the oil filter and therefore don't get to where they are needed. You need to check your oil pressure with a gauge and see what is going on. Best case you have a bad sending unit. Worstcase is your engine is tired and worn out. You could try a straight SAE 30 or 40 oil and see if it can buy you some time.

This marks the 3rd forum I've joined in the last year that is on it's last leg. Quite depressing. I'm staying here though.

Re: my oil light keeps coming on

Well Joey...
The newest Prelude was built in (arguably) november 2001. These cars aren't sexy in the eyes of the youth. Couple that with likely 20% of the 58k built being gone, 20% being stashed by folks like me, 50% already modified into show car and added to the stashed category.

That means about 5-10k are being tossed around from owner to owner, in many cases passing their headache to the unsuspecting....hence you get ignorant and not so bright youngsters who've been raised with a nintendo baby sitter and educated by schools designed to dumb down little johnny so everybody passes..and there ya have it.

Pz dying? Nah. But it certainly isn't as active as it once was. If you look at the bottom you'll see normally there are 200+ visitors. Lurkers or bots? Dunno, but I do know dozens of folks join each month in spurts yet don't fall in with the crowd as it were.
So from a research point of view, it's still very active.

It's up to folks like you Joey to keep the chat room part going.

The place was started when preludes and founders were a lot younger. The stoke was there. These days those folks have got kids, careers, and life taking away their pz time.
That and the friends made here chat on smart phones these days.

Me personally, I spend less time here in the warm season. It was 22k members when I joined in 2012. Last time I looked it was pushing 26k.
Just looked...pushing 30k now.

Probably 50% of my post have been attempting to assist the un-learn-rd youngan get a start. But as the posts get repetitive I tend to base my response/not response on the spelling and grammar of the posts. If they do not know how to insert puncuation or are just too lazy, I automatically assume they want an easy painless fix as quick and cheap as possible. And I'm not going to teach anybody how to fix a broken leg with a toothpick.

Edit:
I don't hold any malice against the youngsters of today.
But I am pissed off at all the grown ups who won't teach them.
