low end torque questions

so after doing to research on another thread here. on "chipping" and tuning the prelude, i'm kinda looking for some direction here.

i plan on obviously doing some upgrades for a slight HP Gain, more or less bc when i get a prelude i do that standard bolt on procedure for starters.

i wanta bit more HP on the low end.

any suggestions?

Supers normally kick in much before that, they are supposed to be very quick throttle response, it's normally turbos that are like that and have to wind up a lot first

Re: low end torque questions

I think he is talking about the Scion TCs VVT system which is similar to VTEC. I dont think they have a supercharged version yet but dont quote me on it. My first suggestion would be to get I,H,E & a tune. then from there you start getting into suspension and brakes, then move into ignition then fuel then turbo/NA/SC mods such as pistons sleeved block port & polish yadayadayada.

YEAH. that what i thought too about S/C. i mean it had some power in the low end dept. but i didn't think that was from the S/C.

"My first suggestion would be to get I/H/E + tune"-- im assuming INTAKE,HEADERS,EXHAUST is what you mean here
so what would a tune do for me? i figured i would have much more work done before a tune is needed..

Re: low end torque questions

yes scions can come with superchargers. they have them as an available option dealers can install.

and there are a few types of superchargers that will effect when the boost come in. namely 2. you have roots type which, for preludes, are the only ones available, and the centrifugal type, which is like a turbo, which are what come on the scions. roots type have immediate boost and offer loads of low end torque. centrifugal, much like a turbo, need to spool.

Re: low end torque questions

Increase tourque with some motor mount inserts or go ahead and make them solid like I did. It will help off the line. Motor doesnt move and puts the power where it needs to go, but it sends vibrations through the car.

Also a stage 2 clutch with a light flywheel has been my favorite upgrade. Quicker up and down revs and throttle response.

This has been the most help here.

so is there anything i can do w/o a S/C to increase power on the low side?
