h22a4 or f20b type r??

hi i got a 98 prelude base model with my stock h22a4. to compliment it a got an aem intake, dc headers and an apexi exhaust. recently i got an offer that seems impossible to refuse. the mechanic at the shop that i always go to offered to sell me a rebuilt f20b type r motor. he says its much better that the h22a4 and that it will give me more power. he also told me its equipped with a dual stage vtec along with stage 2 cam gears and camshafts. i was doing research and people always say different things. some say f20b is better, some say the h22a4 is better. so which engine will in fact be better for my lude? my original h22a4 or this f20b? my goal is to make my car faster in the 1/4 mile. so which engine is better for that purpose?

Re: h22a4 or f20b type r??

Okay well i personally don't know which is better but heres my opinion. The mechanic is going to tell you the f20b is better because he wants to make money. If some are saying the h22a4 is better and some saying the f20b is better well i would assume they are fairly equal. And due to that case if they are pretty close to being equal why first off waste money with an engine swap and second risk there being problems due to an engine swap. I would just keep the h22a4, but if you can get more research proving the f20b is definately better and reliable well maybe you might wanna spend the money for the swap.

i agree with bCoy. hes just saying its better to make money. id just keep the h22 and build that up. stock, both engines are relatively the same specs.

Re: h22a4 or f20b type r??

Accord Type R Steve.

The F has a higher redline, because it has to rev harder due to the longer gear ratios in the relevant gearbox. The H has more low end torque. You decide what you want.

If you feel like looking, there's plenty of info about the F20 on here by one of the more knowledgable fellows on the subject.
