Gasket blown, missing studs, help! (in UK)

Hi guys,

Dunno if any of you remember but I got an new full exhaust system few weeks ago, along with few other things (which have not broke ) but the reason ive not put up any pics etc yet is, after a week or so a stud fell out the manifold down pipe (where it goes 4-2) If I am perfectly honest thatís the only one I did not torx! Realizing it was blown I set out to get a new stud, I managed to find a bolt for the time being but by that time the gasket was already blown! I still have no new gasket or stud, and im running out of places to look. Already asked the company that sold the manifold, said they donít supply the parts only the complete set, and so my nightmare continued along that sort of path.

So if anyone that knows where to get either, in the UK, or has got any ideas. PLEASE let me know!

One thing I would like to add, this is a time when living in the USA would help, found loooads of spares there!

Sorry to prat on

Thanks
Ollie

We'll be of limited help on here mate. Try the guys on http://preludeuk.forumup.com/, they're a bit more localised.

Re: Gasket blown, missing studs, help! (in UK)

you can make your own gasket, just order some exhaust gasket material or a local parts store should keep it in stock, i dont know if they do over there but they do here, and you just pull the down pipe off and you can either trace and cut a new gasket for it or lay the material on top of it and get a ballpien hammer and hammer around the edges not really hard or anything and the metal will actually cut the gasket to the shape you need it to be...

like this but with exhaust gasket material, and you might need a little bit bigger hammer it will make it easier, but the stuff cuts surprisingly easy

Re: Gasket blown, missing studs, help! (in UK)

When I was missing an exhaust gasket I bought some cheap cork gasket from my local motor factor and wrapped it in thick tin foil, it worked great.

Where the header goes from 4 to 2 (can't stress this enough, it's called A-Pipe to B-Pipe... downpipes are only on turbocharged cars ) is it a stud on one flange and a hole in the other? Or is it a hole in both flanges that you would run a bolt through... If you wanted to be daring about it, you could always drill a hole straight through the flange where the stud would have been so that it lines up with the hole that is already in the other flange, and then run a bolt through them and tighten it down with a nut...

Kinda ghetto, but if you did it to all the studs it would just look like that's the way it's supposed to be =P.
