under load idle issue

OMG please don't flame me. lol

I've spend the past couple days reading idle threads out of the searches but i think i may have a unique problem, the only thing i have left to check is coolant. which cross my fingers is the issue.

I've pulled the Idle control valve and sprayed it with carb cleaner with absolutely no change.

Now the weird part.

The lude runs fine with the AC off with no problems at all "other then vtec seems to kick in late" anyway when i turn on the AC it runs ok till i rev it passed say 3k rpm and let off.

When I do this it drops almost to a stall, fluctuates within about 1.2k rpm and then after about 5 cycles it levels our running a little rough.

One thing i noticed during the fluctuations is that it sounds like, though not positive, that the AC compressor? is cycling off and on fairly proportionate to the rpm drop offs. Is it possible that the car shuts off the AC compressor in order to prevent the stall????? IDK

So this what i have so far. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Re: under load idle issue

I just replaced my PCV cuz my car was doing similar things. Rough start, weird idle and boggin down when getting on it. Pop out the PCV and give it a shake...If it rattles its good, no rattle, replace it

Re: under load idle issue

I'll be trying PCV out today but one thing i noticed is that the AC compressor is cycling off and on while the idle fluctuates. Why would this happen? I believe it to be directly related to my idle problem. it runs very smoothly when the AC is turned off or i am at an RPM higher then idle. Idle ~700-800rpm

Re: under load idle issue

If it only does it when the A/C is on thats probly the culprit... Most cars dont run well with A/C on because it uses a lot of power from the motor. Check yer belt to make sure its nice and snug... Try tugging on the compressor itself to see if its loose at all... Worst case scenario, dont run the A/C or try replacing the compressor...

Re: under load idle issue

sigh i was afraid of that, i was hoping it was just a byproduct...i'll see if the compressor is binding at all. I wish i had a real lift..

Re: under load idle issue

lol no actually and i haven't been on in a while, but the PCV valve was fine. I found out that it might of been cause by low freon because there is a sensor to shut the system off if it goes low, but my compressor ended up blowing up....anyone know how easy it is to rebuild these compressors?

anyway the car is smoking now and I'm not sure why, compression check came out ok.... so frustrating...
