1st gear vtec bogging

So driving the car tonight when i tried to go all the way through 1st gear the vtec was almost struggling to engage and then would pop in and out of vtec the whole way through the rest of the gear.

Second gear had no sign of an issue through the whole gear, very smooth like usual.

Haven't gone through the rest of the gears yet so not sure how they are doing.

I own a 1997 Type SH. It has 84k miles.

First issue i have had with the car since purchase two weeks ago.

I have tried searching around and it is pretty difficult to use the search on this site.

I am not new to forums just this one.

It just had a recent oil change at around 82K miles. Aside from a cone filter on the end of the stock intake piping this car is 100% stock.

Would love some help

Thanks,

Tyler

Re: 1st gear vtech bogging

Did you give it time to warm up before going all the way through in first gear?

Re: 1st gear vtech bogging

Yah i had already been driving it a good 15-20 min it was a full operating temperature.

I need to check my oil situation is my guess but didn't know if anyone had a similar problem with the first gear doing this.

Thanks,

Tyler

If Cel you mean the green light that is on for maintenance i believe. That is on during the night. Then yes it has a cel i need to scan it. Will a regular computer OBDII hookup scan on a 97 prelude sh? Friend of mine has one.

Thanks,

Tyler

Re: 1st gear vtech bogging

Yep any scanner you buy will typically be for OBDII, unless you get a fancy one that can do OBDI too... What weight oil did the shop put in the car?? Should be on the sticker... I had to put to thick of an oil in one time cuz it was all I had and my VTEC was all screwy... CEL is check engine light...amber not green...the green thing is just a manual indicator...If you go to long without stickin yer key in it it turns yellow...7000 miles I think..

Re: 1st gear vtec bogging

Does anyone have a saved link of a thread dealing with the removal and cleaning of that solenoid?

Tried searching only comes up with problems like mine talking about the same things that are being told to me.

Thanks,

Tyler
