Need Advice

I just pulled out my engine because i blew my clutch. Im also changing some of the gaskets on the head. It looks like my car burned a bit of oil. Wat cause the car to eat oil on preludes. I heard valve seals. How can i check.

Re: Need Advice

ya from what i understand its a mix of worn seals/gaskets and "wear and tear"...
Basically to reduce the amount of oil your engine burns, you have to take it all apart and clean it, get all the built up crap out(depending on how many miles are on the car) then replace all the seals and gaskets... i think that would reduce the oil burning by a noticable diffference

Re: Need Advice

Take your sparkplugs out and check for any signs of oil build up. If it appears damp with oil, that means your seal rings are gone. When you change the valve rings, might as well buy the whole valva cover gasket set which about $20. If you're not burning oil at the plugs, then that means your piston rings are worn. Drive your car to the ground i guess or get a new motor.

Re: Need Advice

H22's burn oil cuz of a factory defect with the rings... And VTEC doesnt really help the situation... Replacing gaskets isn't going to aid in not burning oil...But if you got it out, you might as well do em..So if yer gonna replace anything while the motor is out i'd say the rings and maybe the pistons...Mahle golds are the shizzz. I'm gonna get a oil catch can and see if that helps at all... I just replaced my PCV cuz it was shot and FULL of oil. And I hope Prime81 meant piston rings because valves dont have rings... Valve seals typically have a low mortality rate unless something really bad has happened like the tensioner failing or a warped head etc etc...But again...If you got it out, You might as well replace them...
