clutch problem?

So i let my dad drive my car to work yesterday and when he got back i got in to drive to walmart. when i started the car and tried putting into gear it made a loud whining noise, but i didnt think anything of it. as i tried to changed into second gear it wouldnt go. so i pressed the clutch again and tried putting into 2nd, it went in but it took some effort and alot of whining. I noticed that if i pushed the clutch all the way down while shifting this problem happens, but when i push the clutch half way it goes into gear fine. I took to two different mechanics, one was sure it was the clutch that needed to be replaced and the other one thinks its the synchro. I dont know what to do, or what mechanic to take to... any help would be appreciated greatly.

Re: clutch problem?

I just read your post and was wondering what the problem was. Mine has started to do the same thing and I wanna make sure that I'm going to fix it right the first time. Everybody is telling me its the release bearing.

Re: clutch problem?

As far as I can see. Changed the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder, then bled the line.

Re: clutch problem?

Possible that the throwout bearing is going bad and/or bad syncros which is kind of common with 5th gems especially with 5th gear. Have you ever had the clutch changed or know if its ever been changed?

Re: clutch problem?

I found the problem. I replaced the master cylinder for the clutch and the slave cylinder. I bled the lines but not good enough. There was trapped in the master that eventully worked its way to the slave. Apon further inspection, I relized that the flared steel line wasn't tight enough and was letting air through. I cranked the flared nut and gave the master a good bleeding. Transmission works mint!
