Re: i feel stupid

Start off by removing shift knob and the side panels towards the front of the center console...they just pop off. There are screws all around the center console...remove them and raise the center console, there will be a clip for the light in the change dish that you don't wanna break it!...raise center console a bit and unhook the light clip. Then it will lift off and you can carefully remove from car and place on a towel or couch. Then you will see this and the rest should be self explanatory.

Nice, I've been wondering how to do this too. I'm sure it's pretty similar for the 4th gen.

Re: i feel stupid

remove the whole center console..like everyone said.. there should be some screws on the side of the actual console.. you will have to remove the shift knob. and be careful not to rip your shift boot..

I don't know about 4th gen, but I believe the 5th gen base is really is just as simple as unscrewing it REALLY hard. Have you tried that?

Re: i feel stupid

In my 5th Gen. you have to pull down on the shift boot to detach it from the shift knob then unscrew knob itself...there are two pressure tabs that are holding boot to the knob. Just push the fake chrome piece down and it will pop off the shift knob and knob will come right off!

Re: i feel stupid

make sure the car is in neutral to, or else the knob will just keep spinning and not do anything.
