Re: Looking to buy a Prelude.. help a noob

if you get the SH it comes only in manual, has the ATTS which helps balance your cars power while turning (please correct me if im wrong), you get the spoiler with 3rd brake light, your door has its own light on it, and i think thats it?

the base is, well base. it comes in either auto (tritronic i believe its called) which is an auto with a manual that is clutchless or a manual tranny, and doesnt come with anything the SH is.

but in the long run, whats your plans for it? if your going to try and build it up and use it more then a DD then get the base cause youll eventually have to rip the ATTS out cause itll stop your power at 250 (correct me if im wrong once again). but if its your DD and your going to do very little modding then def go with the SH if you dont have any issues with a manual tranny

edit: id go with the base if your willing to spend that much, but id try to talk them down a bit. good luck with the decision

Re: Looking to buy a Prelude.. help a noob

I'd get the base but theres no way in hell Id pay 11k for it, I got mine with 106k on the clock and only paid about half that. and mine is a 2000 so not like theres a huge difference...up to you though, they both seem like nice cars...oh and white lude FTW!

The SH has double wishbone suspension ( heavier ), lights on the door, 5hp less.
The ones you are looking @ the base is a year younger, 48000 miles less ( which on a Honda only means it is broken in ) & is a stick shift see if you can talk them down & test drive both to make a final decision. It is the best looking years of the 'lude IMO.

Many beg to differ, sir.

Back to topic,

keep looking for them man, the right one for you will come up eventually. Even though it's hard, try not to be too impulsive. The two you posted are just too damn expensive, it doesn't matter if there's less than 50K on the engine, I still wouldn't buy it even if I had the money. Good hunting.

Re: Looking to buy a Prelude.. help a noob

drj1633,

I've been trolling Craigslist and the local dealerships for 2 months and they randomly pop up every 10 days or so (Seattle, Wa). In two months I've turned down 20 ripoffs, junkers, and wolves in sheep's clothing (amazing on the outside, nasty undercarriage and engine).

Today I purchased a black 1998 in excellent condition with 132k and a 5sp trans for $6,400 + 8.9% tax ($7100 total).

I Advise to :

1. Stick to trade-ins at large dealerships (they want to get the lower priced, higher mileage car off the lot to make room for the big commission cars).

2. Stick to private parties. Trust your gut instinct. You'll meet an honest person looking to buy a van or an accord to accommodate baby #2 or something like that.

3. Be patient. Don't buy a nice looking lude with really high miles. Don't buy a ****ty looking lude with really low miles. PATIENCE!!

Oh and I suggest you stick with the 5-speed manual SH (Super Handling) model. It gets better gas mileage and the engine has an added 5hp (200hp stock!)

Cheers,

t8

I have to agree and high milage is never good. I got my lude nearly half that price with half the miles and NEARLY mint condition.

Re: Looking to buy a Prelude.. help a noob

If I were you I'd buy a Base model with manual gearbox that way if you ever decide to build for boost you won't have to worry about ATTS and its associated limits. Also the Base is lighter than SH so its faster in a straight line.
