oil dissapearing help please!!

Alright so im going through oil like crazy, down a qaurt in about 2 to 3 days depending on how hard im driving. The lude had quite a leak when i picked it up but i replaced my valve cover gasket and some little seal and ever since i havent seen any oil under my car or under the hood so im pretty sure its not leaking anywhere. So i thought i must be burning oil but im not seeing any white/blue smoke out the exhaust. Can anyone tell me how im losing all this oil and theresno sign of where its going?!?

Re: oil dissapearing help please!!

Yowza...thats a lot of oil to be going thru. Ludes are notorius for burning oil but not that much. When I first got mine I had a similar issue. My clutch was actin funny so I brought it in. Come to find out there was a seal that was toast, and oil had been leaking from the Vtec something or other(excuse my lamens terms not exactly sure what the name is) into my tranny. My clutch disk had absorbed a bunch of oil which was making it contact the flywheel when it was engaged. Hope thats not it. There is a dye that can be used to detect leaks. Not sure it's available to us though...I'd bring it in and have it checked out.

Re: oil dissapearing help please!!

yea i know man its so much thats why its weird that theres no evidence of it leaking or whatever, but yea i was thinkin that leakin internally would be a possibility but its not really running any differently and youd think that much oil inside would do damage like that

Re: oil dissapearing help please!!

Yeah thats a lot of oil...next best thing would be to pull a couple spark plugs. If theres oil on em thats bad rings. But that amount of oil you would definitely see some black smoke... Dont know what else to tell ya. Bring it to a shop/dealer(whatever your preference) and look into the that dye..

Re: oil dissapearing help please!!

have your rear main seal checked.. what you can do is get a stop leak thing from the auto store they reallp help rebuild bad seals. u put that stuff in the oil drive for like 2 days then do an oil change then see how it is(if it is a leak)

That's the one...

The only thing is, to the best of my knowledge (and correct me if I'm wrong) the only way to check that seal is by ripping the tranny off, which means that you can't really just have a shop "check it" without paying them a ton in labor fees just to get to it... At that point, you might as well just have them replace it (and your clutch too while in there).

Well, in short: YES YOU HAVE TO DO OIL CHANGES REGARDLESS.

You may be burning off the oil, but you aren't burning off all of the dirt, grime, and metal that is sitting in the bottom of your oil pan. People don't realize how many solids actually get into their oil. The purpose of an oil change is just as much to flush out all the solids as it is to flush out all of the oil.

You might want to change the motor if you're burning that much oil.
