Icon8 2ND GEAR SLIPPING..TRANNY FAILURE??

i've owned my 5th gen for nearly 2 years, full scheduled maintanance, regular oil change, t-belt service done, new spark plugs/wires, etc..as far as about a year ago i've noticed that the second gear always slipped (going from 1st to 2nd) a little. only the 2nd - and yes,i have an auto btw. no biggie then, until just recently took the car to the shop for another problem and this got mentioned to me again. the gear slip had obviously worsened some. the tranny shop told me that the ATF was extremely dark, i asked if i can simply replace it/flush it, they told me this might actually make it worse (the gears slipping), since at this point it was the gunk and metal fall out that was actually helping the "catching" of the gears - if you will..

i decided to take it to the honda dealer where i usually get it serviced for a second opinion. they told me that basically it was an 'internal' transmission problem (well no sh*t) and they suggested i'd have to go to a tranny shop to get it checked since i was looking @ at potential rebuild & they did NOT do rebuilds there (wtf?).

funny they suggested i still get the atf replaced (what they do isnt exactly a 'flush' they call it something else, forgot) stating that it might..MIGHT..help it hold out a little..but that inevitably i was looking @ possible tranny failure..

now that i've replaced the fluid, the second gear is slipping even MORE than before, as well as the car taking wayyyy to long to accelerate, especially when from a complete hault. i have to take extra precaution when accelerating (as in pushing the pedal slowwwwly) otherwise i feel like i'm 'rushing' the transmission..
so with that said, i have concluded i'll be needing a new tranny sooner than what i think. any opinions? if indeed a new tranny is needed i was considering a cpl of options, please feel free to comment:

1.) my car has less than 100K miles on it, was thinking to get an extended warranty? worth it if i get a good one? from what i understand i will have to wait for the car to actually breakdown so that they can cover costs for repair..with a $100 deductible, and @ around $90/mth sounds tempting..??
would the warranty company pay for replacement of damaged tranny components (rebuild?) in the event of tranny failure or would they pay for a new tranny all together?

2.) do a rebuild or swap? from what i understand swapping meaning putting in another used but fully functional tranny, where-as rebuild is..well exactly that..exchanging/'rebuilding' damaged components
within..which leads me to this question:

-which one of these is more affordable, reliable? what are the price ranges for a rebuild and swap? price for a brand new tranny if thats even possible to get??

i originally really favored doing a 5 spd swap, but after seeing how much more $$$ i'd be spending if i were to go that route, that idea went out the window..not to mention i wouldnt feel comfy w/ just any mechanic tackling the job, considering the little details, that if not done correctly,
would make the situation worse!

any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated!! like most of you, i really take pride in my car and put alot of care into her. i've had to put all projects for her on pause since i've now made this a priority.

also, anybody know of reliable people/referrals close to the orlando, FL area??

they are both nice looking cars. Does that NSX belong to you or somene you know.

I don't know much about auto failure thing. But have you considered, selling your car as is and buying a 5-spd. If that will result in a similiar net cost wouldn't that be a better option. But this is practical only if you can find a 5-spd thats clean enough to your liking and with low miles like your current car.

after researching, i was under the impression a 5spd swap would cost more??

selling my car is not an option at this point, i've put way too much time into her, alot of tlc..plus still making payments..so not an option. my options would be the obvious which i already mentioned, but thx

he did say the cheapest would be a rebuild, the most reliable would be a 5 spd swap. If you have already put so much money into it, why not spend the extra cash and make it a manual. Sooo much more fun to drive when you get to open her up on some twisties :)
