I hate life

Well guys I finally bought the blue prelude I really wanted. Now on the way home after buying it from the dealer it rained pretty hard but then stopped. I was following my stepdad who was driving the prelude home in my accord. The prelude has a CAI. Then we came to some very flooded areas which we drove through and made it out fine. Then on the last flooded area there was a huge truck next to my stepdad and when they both started going, the truck threw a huge wave at the prelude and when it hit, the prelude spluttered and stalled out. Now we cant start the car at all. It had to be towed to my house. I think it is hydrolocked :(. When I tried to start then car I didn't get any engine turnover noise, just the clicking sound. Also when I tried to start it, the lights on the dashboard would dim really bad. I honestly don't know what to do. I just bought this car and now I'm at high risk of the motor being gone. it is a 2001 base prelude. FML

remove the intake see if you can tell if its wet by the intake manifold.. test your battery then test to see if your getting spark.. it might also be a main relay

Re: I hate life

yeah, i would definitely check the electrical aspect first before assuming it's hydrolocked.

X2!!! I would do that first to see if any water got into the intake. If not then thewave of water prob short circuit the batt and killed it.

It prob seems like the batt is shot.

Re: I hate life

Ok, I tried to jump start the car with a simple jumper pack. Still no luck. Then I took out the plugs and they seemed kinda dry. Also I stuck a thin piece of paper in the cylinders to see if I would get any wetness but the paper came up dry. Then I drained out the oil and at first a little water came out then all the dirty oil came out. I pulled out some of the fender liner to check the air filter and it was soaked and there were alot of dirty leaves I pulled out. I pulled out the intake from the throttle body and I did see wetness in the intake. I have no idea what to do. I have to buy some new oil to put in. I am so depressed. Also when the car was being lifted on the flatbed water poured out of the tailpipe. I'm not sure if it was because the pipe was under water or not.

^ The water coming out the back is most likely just from it being underwater.

dooood.. that sucks. did you have insurance on it.. if you do. you can claim this under COMPREHENSIVE coverage. it is a portion of full coverage, that can cover floods, storms, theft vandalism etc. i work in insurance so hopefully you have it!!!

if you do call you insurance Co. and file a claim for your engine. they will prob. replace it
after inspection, or fix it.. good luck

Re: I hate life

you said u just bought the car. so depending on the insurance carrier for your or your dads other cars, u might have a grace period(usually 30days ) to add a new car. if that is the case u might be able to add the car with full coverage and claim insurance.

about the problem u might still have a short in you electrical system or starter might have been damaged due to water. So like I said before try push starting and see if you can rule out possibilities or find your problems. i hope it is not something too bad or expensive. good luck.

Re: I hate life

first take the CAI off and throw it in the garbage. then take a shop vac and vac out the intake manifold/throttle body the best you can. take a small rubber hose and vac out the spark plug holes. spray some wd40 in the intake. lastly go buy a short ram CAI. thats what i would do

just watched the video. was that water shooting out of there? if so you want to get as much of it out with a shop vac rather than cranking it.

If uve been hitting down the brake with the car off ur gonna build pressure in the calipers, itll only reset when the car is on.

That looks like an electrical issue or battery issue, try jumping the car using just the jumpers pluged onto the battery ties. Ur Starter might be toasted too if water got in that.

Battery connectors... I was tired. Take them off the battery and just jump it from the jumpers onto the connectors

Re: I hate life

Ok I now have the front of my car on jack stands. With the car in neutral I was easily able to turn the wheel. And while it turned the other turned in the opposite direction which I am pretty sure is good. Then when I put the car in gear the wheel still turned like it was in neutral which I am sure that is not right. I tried it in 1st and reverse and both did the same thing. Then I tried to turn the crank and I got it to turn about a full turn (each way) and then it comes to a stop like it is locked and I can't turn it anymore.

Re: I hate life

Before you start rippin into this thing, call the dealer!!! I mean how deep were these pools of water? I couldnt imagine it sucking up that much water. Call the dealer...you should have a grace period ushually 30 days, I had 90 when I got mine because of lemon laws.
When I drove it off the lot I had a CEL saying the car was misfireing on all 4 cylinders. They had the engine bay steam cleaned and there was water in the motor. They took it to the dealer and replaced plugs ,wires, cap, rotor everything until the light went off. Good Luck man

Oh yeah ...was there somebody in the accord giving it gas when you were trying to jump it. If not, you will have little results and puts a lot of strain on the battery and electrical system. fyi

The dealer is out of the question. I have tried giving it gas when jumpstarting it just not in the video.

do what this guy said. He knows what he is talking about. By messing with it you have less of a chance of it getting covered so stop. Leave it how it is and call your carrier.

Re: I hate life

There is no insurance on the car!!!!! Reason was because it was suppose to be an easy ride home from the dealer and it was going right in my garage. Question now...Is it bad to turn the crank BOTH ways by hand just to see if it will turn?

Re: I hate life

Do not turn the crank clockwise only counter-clockwise. Turning it the wrong way will jump a tooth and throw off the timing if you then started the motor the engine could be damaged.
