Issue with starting car...

---Wall of text ahead, sorry I type so much---

So last Saturday I went to work with no problem and i stayed for about 4 hrs, well i left my building and my car wouldn't start. Well I popped my hood and the clamps on the battery were covered in the white/greenish dust (i'm a bit colorblind), well i cleaned that off and it started up. Well I had the same issue this past Saturday and I had to do the same thing.

To get to the point, it happened today at a gas station when i was filling up. I started my car, left work and got to the gas station. The car was off for about 2-3 mins tops and when I paid and tried starting it, no juice. I tried cleaning the clamps and all that and still not juice. So I walk down to Autozone and they test my battery and its good. Now I'm thinking my starter went. So i walk back to my car, get the car in neutral and move it out of the way, called a tow truck and while i waited i decided to look and clean the clamps off a bit. Well the positive runs roughly 1 foot to the black box in the top left cover (passenger side), which looked weird to me, and the clamp looks like it was replaced. i bought the car last april. when i looked at the negative it is 2 or 3 different colors and runs down the inside of the engine bay and around.

So, i cleaned the negative off inside and out for a few mins and went to clean the positive but it had nothing on it. I clamp everything back and sit in the car a bit and just cause i was bored I started my car and it started up with no problems at all, nice smooth start.

Now, my question is should I have the negative adapter and wire replaced (I believe that is my issue)? what exactly is causing the build up on my battery terminals and clamps to interfer with the connection? my starter isn't the issue right?

Any and all info is very appreicated since this is my only car for both my wife and I, and I need this working until my Jeep is out of the shop and street legal. Thanks for the help and sorry again for the wall of text.

No problem, I would check to see if your clamps are too warn to use meaning you can only get them so tight, its thats the case replace them. Your corrosion is a mix of acid, water etc. Once you clean them again next time get yourself some lubrication. Autozone sells this packet of battery terminal grease. Try that and also replace the wires if they look too warn.

Re: Issue with starting car...

i believe the neutral wire and clamp need to be replaced because there is a real big color difference compared to the positive clamp. like i said, i believe the positive has been replaced already, definately since the build up is barely even on the positive, it seems to only really build up on the neutral clamp. hopefully it last til this weekend and i can get my buddy to take a look at it among other things. thanks man.

I would probably jus get a new clamp and while that you're at it to go to AUTOZONE and get that battery terminal brush cleaner and before connecting them back on to buy that $1 little packet of battery grease and slap some on the pos n neg terminal.

After that then you should be good to go!!!
