5th gen crank pulley broken:(

Well just driving to work today kinda of in a hurry not going fast but i was at the stop light and i went to take off nice and easy got up near 5500 rpms in 1st gear (my vtec kicks at 3800 by the way) and my crankshaft pulley broke lose now just hanging there with the belt lying there as well......

I am kinda of wonder why or how this happened if anyone has any clues!

Re: 5th gen crank pulley broken:(

well crank pulleys are not 100% solid metal... there is a thin rubber strip that connects 2 pieces, what sometimes looks to be 1 metal piece together.

its used to dampen vibrations and that rubber piece can dry out and crack and then leave u with 2 pieces

also hows 3800 as a crossover work... any dyno graphs

Defnitly pulls a tad bit harder once kicked in but if am not 100% throttle it makes an akward ticking noise that i try to to ever hit.

Re: 5th gen crank pulley broken:(

I've got a 4th gen that had a bad pulley when I bought it, it's no big deal really. You can pick one up new for under 200$ or find a good parts yard like I did and get one for 100 or so, I just got lucky and my parts guy found me a new one for that price. As long as the pulley itself is all that broke and the bolt is fine then it's fairly straight forward to get fixed. Took mine to the garage after trying it myself (pain in the ass) but if you have a good air compressor and an impact then it's a simple job...assuming you can reach yours :P. On the 4th gen I just removed the front driver wheel and the pulley is JUST barely exposed enough to get a socket on it...

If it is a bad pulley then you may have a good excuse to upgrade the whole pulley system :)
