Prelude Diet??

i have a 97 SH and the atts is causing more probs than its worth, the power steering has a leak.

i was wondering how hard it is to take out the ATTS system, Power steering and A/C. Do i need to have power steering? and about how much weight would i save it i did drop all of these components?

Re: Prelude Diet??

removing the atts, ac, power steering and all of their components should shave off just approx 60 - 80lbs. (includes weight of cooling system fluids)
the atts unit itselfs weighs approx 37lbs

Re: Prelude Diet??

depending on how mechanical you are, you can just do it all yourself. read up on it on the forums and ask any questions you may have.

if not, find a honda specialist that can do the work for you. since you are only in PA if you feel like taking a roadtrip to NY i know my boy Bustr will do the work.

Re: Prelude Diet??

the onlything with taking the power steering out is that the car was built for powersteering, i have found in my friends 96 accord coupe that the steering feels "spungy" or like its on rubber bands when you are taking turns. But it could just be his car. I had a 97 civic that came without power steering and that felt more proper, mostly because it came from the factory like that.

It takes about a week to get used to, but you eventually don't even think about it. I posted a write up on how to take it off properly.
Bigger tires makes it harder. I had 215/50/16 when I did it. I went to 205/50's and it was a night and day difference.

Re: Prelude Diet??

you dont wanna drive without power steering dude..its not fun..my bro had an 83 porsche think about playing tug of war with your car everyday around tight corners and depending on where u live, no offense but it would be a dumb idea to get rid of something that was put their to benefit the car in the first place, thats not much to say for the atts but the idiot who had the car before u messed that up, good luck

Re: Prelude Diet??

making an sh to base isnt that easy...
first thing is fabbing up a plate to cover the trans where you removed the atts unot...
also when you remove ps...
your looping the lines..
its easy, you just need one part to loop em...
its a air tool connector deal...
but yea...making that a base wouldnt be fun.

That's because your civic came with a manual steering rack and they make a world of difference if you swap the ps steering rack out for a manual if you take out your ps.

Redrocket6:

Taking off your ps and ac will not only save weight but also release some loads off of the engine so it's a win win situation.

I wouldn't take out the ps and ac though... You will kill your resell value and if it's a daily driver then you are really going to regret it at some point.

I didn't bother to read all this thread so sry if I covered something that someone already said.

If there is something wrong with the atts go have it checked out... the atts is the whole point of having an sh.
