major service advice needed...

my type S has finally reached the 100,000km/60,000mile mark so i need to do the timing belt but do i need to do the tensioner and waterpump too? the guy in honda says i don't since it's the cars first timing belt and he reckons i should hold off until the next one, especially since i don't drive the s*** out of my car but what do ye guys and girls think?
i was planning on doing all of them but the tensioner alone will cost me just over $300 and i don't know if i can afford that...
the water pump is about $200 so i was thinking of doing the timing belt, balancer shaft belt and water pump, is that a good idea or bad idea?

any input appreciated!

Re: major service advice needed...

I'd save up and replace it all if you can, also do the manual tensioner swap.

Re: major service advice needed...

i have also always heard the tbelt is at 90,000miles. and the manual conversion is a very good idea since the auto tensioner has a bad rep for failing.

Re: major service advice needed...

thanks for the help guys, i never even thought about changing the tensioner for a manual one but i definately will and it will probably be cheaper
i just presumed the timing belt etc. had to be done at 60,000miles but i guess all cars are different because i checked the service manual and it says to do it at 105,000miles/168,000km. i'll still do it before then since the car is 11years old but at least it buys me some time and i can save up for everything

which manual tensioner exactly should i get?

Re: major service advice needed...

Hi
I found this links a while back on another prelude site (don't know if I can link to other forums) and thought they could help you.

This one has a kit with all the part necessary for a manual tensioner conversion:
http://www.importrp.com/product.php?...cat=134&page=1

And this one has write-up of the conversion with pics:
http://mr22.tistory.com/tag/tensioner

Hope it helps and if anything at least you have the parts numbers.

You should adjust your valves (lash) at 60,000 miles when you're doing this you can inspect yout tbelt and make sure its not cracked or shredding

ya i agree with the manual tensioner, it will definately be done, and since the car is 11years old and will be 12 by the time i do it, i'll probably do it around 75,000-80,000miles
