Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

I have a 2.0 5th Gen, type SE.
Any recommendations on brakes for it? I only need to replace rear discs and pads, but thinking of changing front too.

I was looking at 3G 10-GR Discs and Ferodo Premier pads purely because I know them to fit a 5th gen.
I just wanted general oppinions before I buy anything as I'm new ^^

I'm willing to pay out as its the brakes and safety comes into it all eh
Oh I have 17 TSW alloys on my prelude, incase that helps

Hawk HPS pads and Brembo blank rotors. It's not cheap, but it's well damn worth it.

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

I just bought new discs and pads for my VTi, I got EBC blanks (europerformance.co.uk) and stock pads (japparts.co.uk). I was planning on getting better aftermarket discs and pads but felt that the extra money would be better spent on Goodridge SS brake hoses instead.

yes. you don't need anything bigger than stock diameter. powerslot also makes a great OEM replacement. just get slotted rotors with a good pad such as hawk and you'll be fine.
my car has 250whp and I have powerslot rotors and hawk pads. it's all you need.

that's what i have and it's well worth it. good luck getting the rears from brembo though since they don't make a lot of them. I waited for months after i ordered from tirerack and eventually gave up on the rears and went with oem

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

Based on my experience...I had the good Hawk Performance, and switched to the Akebono Street Performance Pads...and liked them better. They had less noise...same stopping power...and surprisingly low dust (much less than the Hawk). Check the link below for more details.
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brake...ar=&perfCode=P

Oh...and I got the Power Slot Cryo rotors, too...(darn OEMs warp pretty easily). I've been driving on this setup for a year now and it's been great.

there are different grades of hawk pads that all perform differently. noise, dust, wear can all be addressed depending on what pad you choose.

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

Agreed. As a point of reference, I replaced my Hawk Performance Ceramic pads with the above mention Akebono. I think both were about the same "class" or "grade."

Will Hawk pads fit the OE calipers?

Stoptech offers a decent setup for a decent price. Here is a link, don't know anything about the vendor but shop around see if you can get a better price.

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

^^He has a UK 2.0 Lude so it will have a 4 stud config.

OP- I wouldnt bother going for anything "better" than stock on the back.

This is in no way a reflection of the quality of the replies here ;), but have you tried www.preludeuk.co.uk , A uk forum so you can get help from other 2.0L drivers.

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

Merlin's right on all points.

The front ones are the ones that do the hard work, the rears are just there for stabilising the car. If you're really worried about them just get a set of pads that match the front for the rear and be done.

If you really want to, you could retrofit the twin piston caliper from the NSX onto the front, however thats a lot more stuffing around than I believe it to be worth. Especially since you'll prolly need to recalibrate your ABS settings as well.

Re: Any recommendations on brakes for 5G?

I took si's advise in the end, I did some searching but I got Brembo blanks and Hawk HPS pads for 150GBP which is nowhere near what i expected to pay, theyre cheaper than i estimated i mean. So im very happy with that, I completely understand that the front does all the work, like i asked in the title i only wanted a recommendation and i asked it here as this was the only site im a member of.

I will use the same setup on the front just I will use slightly larger and slotted discs on the front :]

Thankyou all

At least you could afford it. I had been putting off new brakes forever and the time came yesterday and I had to get Napa. Nothing wrong with their brakes, but just not Brembo+Hawk, nahhmean? I'm satisfied though. I had cracks in the rotors cause they were so old and worn.
