Oil pressure gauge question.

I've searched around and i haven't real found a straight answer... will a electric oil press gauge work if you connect it to the stock sending unit? i have the sh so the only time i will have to add a after market sending unit is when the engine is out... and what wire it would be connecting to the ecu? so i can splice in along with the o2 sensor... ive had people go either way on the answer... some say it'll work... some say it will just read 100 or 50 psi till the press drops to below 8 or what ever is low enough to turn the light on and then the gauge will read 0..

will some one with some sense enlighten on this?

Re: Oil pressure gauge question.

If you want accuracy you're going to have to use an aftermarket sending unit.

i have to disagree. The dummy light on the dash means you literally have 0psi of oil pressure. So any kind of reading is better than...."its too late". How is ur oil psi gauge annoying? Why not just remove it???

No you can't get the stock oil psi sending unit to work with an aftermarket gauge. On electrical gauges, the different pressures give off different resistance readings (ohms), depending on the sensor. The gauge converts the resistance to a corresponding measurement in the gauge. I'm not 100% sure, but i assume 90* sweep gauges may have different resistance readings than a 270* sweep gauge. But i could be completely wrong. I have an oil pressure sender that is good for 90* sweep gauges. You wouldn't wanna thread it into the block tho. NPT vs BSPT

I have a mechanical oil psi gauge in my car. I used a TunerToys Oil take off fitting. And I have no leaks and its nice to know that my car with the a/c on at 750rpms has about 12psi of oil pressure. I like to know how dangerously low it gets

On the SH is the ATTS blocking the oil sending unit??

Not if u buy a good one. Which one do u plan on getting? My oil gauge hasn't worked since the ice/snow storm I had.

Its electonics, so yes I would say if the stock sending unit only sends a signal to the ECU when the pressure gets below 8 psi to turn on the oil light then thats what it will read I guess. If you are very dependant on your oil pressure. Because of forced induction / huge motor build then I would recommend not going with an electronic gauge.

However if you are getting gauges then I think the oil pressure is the most vital one to have.

I have no idea why I see Luders with these huge tachomters on the dash, BIG WASTE OF MONEY!!!. Plus it looks stupid IMO. To each his own I guess.
