Help with buying a 2000 Base Prelude

Hey guys, I posted here a while ago about buying a Prelude but that turned out bad. I am back in the mood to buy a Prelude again buy I am a little nervous about this one and I need some help. I found this http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...adExists=true# which is about 2 hours away from me in another state. It has very low miles for a Prelude which makes me happy and nervous at the same time. What makes me nervous is that the odometer could have been rolled back by someone. I need all opinions on this buy before I drive 2 hours to go see it. Thanks for your help!

The link is not working. Anyway, you just have to see it for yourself. If it's too good to be true then usually it not. Car fax it then ask as much question as you can be for going there.

Re: Help woth buying a 2000 Base Prelude

ask for maintenence papers

timing belt / water pump change

regular oil changes, what kind of oil was put in the car?

what kind of gas was put in the car? (i see more people buy a lude and dont even put high octane where it clearly states it on the dash board and gas cover so this has to be a question to ask now)

look any type of damages in the engine pay see if it was in an accident.

look for any modifications, most likely hardwired a radar or etc... or engines mods.

most of the time, young kids plus a car modded = not a good investment.

id check the oil pan casing see if its messed up, or the down pipe. if this car has been treated roughly and been bottomed out.

ask the guy if you can take the car for a spin, or if he/she can for you. make sure it engages vtec correctly.

other then just look for minor damages/dents on the car to lower the price...cigg burns, etc cosmetic stuff.

goodluck this time around.

if the numbers dont line up on the odometer than its been rolled back. but it may be kinda hard to tell so check what everyone else said to.

Re: Help woth buying a 2000 Base Prelude

look at the last picture, the door and fender is a different color from the quarter panel. That would suggest to me that the car has been hit.

You have a PM from me

Okay it says only 45K miles timing belt IMO have not been done its not ready for one yet.

Hey look for signs of wearing everywhere, like the foot pedals. If they are very worn, the seats etc. thats not alot of miles on the car but if your rubber pads on the pedals are worn thru and falling off and the floor mats have a hole worn about where your heal sits under the gas pedal also the driver's seat has a hole or very worn looking at the door side stitching then those are tell tale signs of lots of miles. If these areas look good then its probably actual miles, good luck I hope I'm not too late getting you this info. I havn't been on the site for a while.

Car looks to be in good shape minus the scrapes and benders. Plus the front lip looks great

<---- jealous I don't have one yet
