Icon2 Fuel gauge only reads half when tank is full?

Hello,

I have a 2000 Prelude w/auto trans and the gas gauge never reads higher than a half tank even when it's full. At first I thought that I wasn't actually filling it up, but the last time I put gas in it I made sure it was full (could see fuel at the top of the filler neck) and yet the gauge still didn't read higher than a half tank.

Has anyone had this problem? I assume that it is the sending unit, but figured I would ask you guys if you had any ideas as well.

Thanks,

Alan

My friend had a similar problem, turned out his float was messed up but he went ahead and replaced the sending unit. I'd start there. good luck.

Re: Fuel gauge only reads half when tank is full?

i had this exact problem. it can only be 1 of 2 things. sending unit or the gauge itself. i decided to replace the sending unit first as it is the easiest and cheapest option. in my case that wasn't the problem. so then i pulled the gauge cluster out and replaced just the fuel gauge with a used one and that fixed it.

Thanks for the help, I'll check the sending unit/float and let you know what the problem is.

I don't have a manual for the car, do I just pull the back seat to get to the sending unit? Any tricks to it or is it pretty straight forward?

Thanks again,

Alan
