Re: My Lude Doesnt Vtec

VTEC solenoid needs to be replaced or filter needs to be cleaned/replaced. Low oil or your engine not being warmed up to 140* Fahrenheit will also cause VTEC not to engage. Also, if you're throwing a CEL that is putting the car in limp-mode, that will do it too. Go to Autozone or something and have them see if there is any codes being thrown. If not, try what I said first.

Re: My Lude Doesnt Vtec

I used to have that problem and after several thread searches, I looked under the hood and noticed the wire came unpluged. Double check that along with all the other advice given here.

Some CEL's send you into limp-mode, some don't. That's what I was trying to get across.

Do you have the stock cat on? No cat? Sounds like it could be the problem.

Re: My Lude Doesnt Vtec

thats because there's a stock rev limiter when your in neutral to prevent idiots from blowing up their motor.

vtec also will not engage by simply revving the engine, the car needs to be moving and there needs to be adequate oil pressure. ughhhhhhh

god this has been covered too many times.

Re: My Lude Doesnt Vtec

because like i just said, the car needs to be moving, above ~5mph IIRC, in order for vtec to engage. since the speedo doesn't work due to your busted VSS the ECU doesn't know the car is moving, hence vtec won't engage.

Re: My Lude Doesnt Vtec

adjust valves, change oil. VTEC only engages when moving @ 20mph or more, with a certain oil pressure, AND with a certain coolant temp. <~~~~RULES FOR VTEC

if ur rev limiter lowered itself to 6700rpm, its likely not emissions related (cat clogged, o2 sensors,etc...)
i think it might something with a sensor used for making calculations for the engine to run properly.

It lowered ur redline because its not liking something that going on with ur car.

Take it to a parts store that reads codes, and have them do it...

check your vtec solanoid, oil pressure, and make sure the car is warm. These are all important factors.

If you can hook up your solenoid to a 12V source, you can test it. If it clicks when you supply power to it, you know it still works.
