front cross beam removal

hey guys, I need some tips on how to remove the front cross beam or cross member. The beam that is connected to the radius rods. I'm sure it's easy as removing bolts and such but if I remove the beam, would anything fall on me..like the ENGINE?! lol I hear I have to remove the bolts to the beam itself...and then remove bolts to the front engine mount, and the radius rod bolt to get it off. Anyone ever do this? in advance.

Re: front cross beam removal

nahh the engine's not gonna fall on you, its supported by the 3 other mounts. it IS gonna drop however, and to line it back up when putting the beam back on your gonna need to use a floor jack.

IIRC, its 2 17mm bolts on each side holding the beam to the chassis, then 1 14mm nut holding each radius rod into the beam, and the 1 single long 17mm bolt holding the front motor mount to the mount bracket. for some odd reason i remember having to take both tow hooks off too, i think to swing the radius rod or something.
its gonna be somewhat of a bitch pulling the beam forward off the two studs @ the end of the RR's, but also pull it down so the motor mounts get outta the way. just use a BFH

Re: front cross beam removal

hmm..it does sound like a bitch to remove. Even the stupid splash guard bolts gave me trouble. One of the bolts just spins...doesn't come off or tighten. And then I couldn't get the bolt off the radius rod that is held onto the control arm. Wait, what's a BFH? lol

Re: front cross beam removal

cool, did you jack the car up or used ramps or what? It wouldn't work if I only jacked up one side huh. I'm gonna be doing this Sunday so any more help would be appreciated.

Re: front cross beam removal

i would at the least put the front up on jack stands. I don't think it'd be a good idea to jack up one side and take the cross member off. I could be wrong on that, but that's just my 2 cents
