Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

Hi all I'm new to the forum, I have a slight problem I've a 5th gen honda prelude 2.2 type s. When i set off slowly in 1st gear you can a hear a rattling sound coming from under the car close to the engine only in first gear, I dont think it's nothing major like the engine because the car is running spot on and no gear crunching when changing and when you rev the car at standstill it sound perfect, what do you think it could be a loose bolt or something, the car has been extensively modified like manifold, skunk intake, fuel rail, cam and pulleys, oil filter relocation, mocal oil cooler, exhaust system, aem V2 induction kit etc. (Will introduce myself once i take some pictures)

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

It been de-catted or so I've been told by the previous owner but it only does it in first gear at low speeds and not in the other gears and also on standstill when you rev it it's sounds fine shouldnt it do it then aswell if it's the cat correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm going to get in checked hopefully today on the ramp thanks

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

yes ur correct - it should rattle even on standstill when you rev the engine..it could be a loose bolt or bracket but then again you will have to get under the car to take a proper look.

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

my cousin's old prelude did that too.. It could be the part that hangs the headers underneath the car. there are two bolts that hold the headers in place and that piece might have broken off especially if you have DC ceramic headers

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

Im not 100% sure but I believe there other heatshields then just the cat one, if only one corner or weld is broke, that might be the reason that you only hear it in first. I have seen other hondas do this.

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

As above. It's a heat sheild. They don't neccessarily rattle when you are stationary and rev the engine, as the engine isn't under load, so always sounds (and vibrates) differently.

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

Well I've checked the car from my local mechanic he drove it and he heard the sound in 1st gear and he says it sounds like the 1st gear is going so he put it up on the ramp and i put the clutch down put it in 1st gear and let go of the clutch as i do normally and no sound, the mechanic says the tyres are not gripping anything because the car is in the air there will be no noise which proves it that there is a problem with the 1st gear but he reccomended to get it checked from a gearbox specialist, what do you guys think, another question my car has the ATTS system is that another word for LSD can someone explain this to me beacuse I was also recommended a gearbox oil change maybe this will cure it thanks for your replys.

I've just rang a gearbox speceialist and by what I told him he says it will be the input bearing but I'm going to go and see him.

Re: Help needed!!!!! rattling sound

I have the same issue and found this thread by searching. I know its over a year old, but any updates?

Has anyone else had this? The car idles perfect, and perfects fine in every aspect except when first letting off the clutch and depressing the accelerator. It only happens for a second at the most, but its most definitely some sort of rattle.

I'm going to take it to my mechanic, I was just hoping to find some solutions online first. Thanks!

There is a heat shield that pretty much runs the entire length of the car its basically a barrier from the hot exhaust pipe to the floor pan of the car. Mine rattles too, I think one corner of the heat shield is a bit rusted and the hole rounded out near the screw holding it in, so once I get my MIG welder back from my dad that puppy is toast.
