Re: Tinting Windows

California Tint Law Enacted: 1999
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In California, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN CALIFORNIA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.
Front Side Windows Must not be more reflective than a standard window.
Back Side Windows Must not be more reflective than a standard window.

OTHER CALIFORNIA RULES AND REGULATIONS
Restricted Colors The tint color(s) of RED AMBER BLUE are not legal by state law.
Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted.
Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state.
Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required.
Medical Exemption State law does NOT allow medical exemptions that would allow you use special tint.

Re: Tinting Windows

yeah im not sure about that one i see them on alot of tinting business websites but no gov ones

this is from chp
Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:

1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.

The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.

However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

this is correct. absolutely no tinting on the front windshield and the front driver and passenger windows. rear windows can be as dark as you'd like, but you need to have mirrors on both sides. that's the law.

now in practice, every cop out there is different. some will let you slide, some will not. also, if you have a medical condition with exposure to uv, you can get a note from your doctor, and show that to the cop when they pull you over.

Re: Tinting Windows

Wow the tinting laws are pretty strick in Cali huh? No tint is allowed on the front driver and passenger side? I guess I can understand why though. The tint law hee is nothing lower that 32% tint bu isn't really enforced.

Mine's whatever came standard with the Ludes. Just looks really darkin my pictures.

Michigan has same law, nothing on the windshield or front driver/passenger windows. I think the back can 20 or 30%. Everybody in my area just drives to Ohio to get tint done since their laws aren't near as bad. Then you just wait for a cop to give you a fix it ticket 'till ya' pull it off the front.

Re: Tinting Windows

I have 5% all around, and the visor strip on the front windshield. I live in Corona, CA. I roll down the windows if I'm about to pull up next to a cop, or if one is about to pass me. Of course I'm always looking for cops due to loud music (noise pollution). So It's like a routine, see a cop, roll down the windows and press ATT on the head unit. I must say though, limo tint makes drinking and driving A LOT easier.

Anyway, I can post them... Just disregard the dents, THEY WILL BE REMOVED SOON!
Also, my car hasn't been washed in a week. Disregard that also :D.

Re: Tinting Windows

I got 20% all around except the front of course and I get away with it only bc my close friend got into a fight way back n the glass from his glasses shaved a chunk off his eye and now has a document showing the cops that he's legally blind and needs to have tints on his window and he gave me a duplicate copy to show cops!!!

or you can try to be slick and roll ur windows down half-way in the areas where you know cops will be around!!!

Re: Tinting Windows

Yeah they are the 3rd Gen "Ebay" projectors. The brand is Eagle Eyes. CCFL Halo Black Housing ones, with an added on HID kit. I'm going with the black contrast. When I first got the lude I was going to clear everything out, so I'd have a CMB and Clear/Silver contrast. I decided darker was the way to go, and soon to come will be painted black hood in the middle and black roof and black trunk. Also black rims with a chrome/neo-chrome lip. Haven't decided whether or not I want regular chrome or neo. And I'm deciding if I want to paint my front, rear lips and sideskirts black. That will be decided later. But it will all flow thanks to the 5% tint. One word of caution with the tint though. When making left turns on an old country road "no street lights" it's kind of hard to see, or when parallel parking. Basically anything at night is hard to see =P. But that's why power windows were invented :)
