Valve cover shopping

Was looking into some valve covers, found this nice looking Tenzo-R cover on andys auto sport. Well, I've got the lude listed for the search but the covers it pulls up say they're for the B16 and B18 motors. Will they fit on the H22 also?

Here's the link:

why dont you just paint yours? you can do basically any color you could imagine or you could take it and get it powdercoated.

what I was assuming, but I figured I'd ask though.

I'll probably just paint it myself, I just thought that one looked nice with the Tenzo logo on it. HOw much does powedercoating usually cost for something that size though? Never looked in to it myself

Re: Valve cover shopping

^X2 just do it yourself. This took me an afternoon just because i'm very particular about how my work turns out. Its not a simple process of painting the valve cover with new paint. If you really want it to turn out good. It will require stripping the valve cover of ALL paint. sanding, wet sanding primer basecoat and clearcoat if you want that look. And also baking the paint on afterwords if you are that much of a perfectionist. I'm sure if you search there is a DIY on how to. This is what I came up with after I couldn't stand to see the Hyper baby blue that the previous owner had painted it.

Before

After

Re: Valve cover shopping

the place in town charges somewhere around 40 bucks to powdercoat something like that. which is prolly just as much as you would pay for paint/primer/clear/sandpaper/stripper.

Re: Valve cover shopping

it should be around the price he ^ said. its only 40 bucks per rim here. im pretty sure the valve cover should be that price or cheaper since its alot easier to do.

Re: Valve cover shopping

Well what Im kind of thinking about doing now; I've got a friend who is a really awesome graffiti artist. I'm thinking about getting a couple of colors (mainly red) of engine paint and letting him go to town on the cover, then clear coat it a couple times. What do you guys think? I'd be something different.
I've been debating on powder coating my rims black with the 'H' red. Anyone have pics of powder coated rims vs. standard rims? I'm gonna' do a google image search here in a little and check it out myself. I just don't want it to look "hooky".

Re: Valve cover shopping

I have a writeup that I did in the DIY section. Check it out there, was like $15 for all the materials, and it turned out pretty good. Prep is the key.

Here's a pic of how mine turned out:

Yeah, I just got done reading that. Looks really sharp. Depending on what my friend wants to charge me to custom paint it, I might just go ahead and do it myself. Hopefully I can do a professional looking job, but at least I'll have more pride in it.

Re: Valve cover shopping

It is a lot of work to do it yourself, but if you have attention to detail, you're set! I may have mine re-powder coated, as I scratched the valve cover when I was putting that alternator wire back in place :fail:

if the center cap with the H on it is plastic and you powder coat your rims they cant powder coat the cap. u will have to match the black around the h to the other black and hand paint the H red.

Just a note on that, it just so happens that the 'H' emblem on the front of the 5g (and 4g) prelude is the exact same size as the ones on the rims. You can use that as a stencil for painting.
