Wet sand with 2000crit paper.
Meguires Plastx (or similar product since I hate Meguires).

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

i've done it. the first time you do it it can get pretty time consuming. you have to get the stock protective coating off all the way. depending on how bad the discoloration is, you might want to try 1000grit. and work your way up to 2000. use lots of water. like have a hose with you running over the headlights. doesn't need to be full blast just enough to rinse away the debris and keep the headlight wet.

just remember once you get that stock coating off you have to keep your headlights well protected. otherwise they will get yellow again very quickly. i use regular car wax on my headlights once a month or so. and i use the plastix ever 6 months or sometimes longer depending on when i start to notice the yellowness setting in. i've had to sand them twice since my initial sanding. and that was over like a 3 year period.

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

Yeah. Like said above. Just start with a 800 grit for only a couple mins. Then 1000 grit. Then a 2000 grit. Then get some plastic polishing stuff and they will look brand new. I did it, really easy

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

that would explain why mine never come out correctly. i only go up to 1000 grit hahaha. i'll go find some finer stuff soon.

i also attempted to buffing them with my dremel after plast-x'ing them........ it was a horrible idea. don't anyone do it.

It's rubbing compound for plastic, I dunno about you guys but when I'm buffing clear coat I use a buffing wheel. Same idea applies.

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

i think over time the damage works its way through the lens and starts to develop on the inside. you'll probably have to replace the lens.

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

After sanding with wet and dry use Autosol and then plastic x polish.
I would also give it a coat or 2 of clear laquer but I wouldn't know if it it'll take or not.

Re: HEADLIGHTS!!!! SANDING DOWN???

3M has a new kit out that comes with sanding discs that u use in a drill and some headlight polish. i tried it, and it works waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than doing the wetsanding and plastx technique. i got the kit at autozone for 20 bucks.

yep. but just to help keep them protected from the elements. the plasti-x does the job. but i think adding a car wax on top of the plasti-x not only shines them a bit more but keeps them protected longer.

There's a difference between going faster, and going too fast. If your buffer is running at too high an RPM it will generate too much heat and burn the plastic. Same as if you're trying to polish your bodywork and you use a buffer with too high RPM you burn the paint.
