98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

I have a 98 Prelude with auto tranny. I've notice that the tranny jerks or shifts kind of hard from 1-2 gear or 5-40 mph. The trans fluid was flush and still looks good. What could this problem be? Let me know...

Bro, im sorrry 2 tell u but ur tranny is prolly on its way out. 97 and 98 auto preludes had a high failure rate with their tranny's.

So I would just have to keep driving it until the tranny dies. Is there anything I can do to prevent the tranny from going out? Let me know...

Re: 98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

Well yeah thats pretty much all u can do. But u can go to a shop and have them rebuild the tranny for ya. But it aint cheap. And it will most likely crap out again. I've heard where one guy got his tranny rebuilt then like 25,000 miles later it went out on him again. But u can also just do a 5spd swap. It costs about the same if u have a shop do it. But if u and some friends can do it, it will be alot cheaper. And the tranny will be alot more reliable after the swap

Mine jerks a little too in the initial start of driving. The best you can do with a AUTO tranny like me is to jus drive it normally like you're suppose to and not push it too hard. I know there will be times that you wanna gun it real hard in the road or VTEC the Lude. Once in a blue is ok, but jus dont over do it!!!

exactly... take it easy on it and it should last longer Autotragics are known for not being soo reliable..although that issue is often hit or miss.
But if u shift it all the time....its not so good for it

Re: 98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

This problem occurs 9/10 times. A friend of mine told me to flush the tranny with amsoil tranny fluid. It might help it to shift smoother, but not fix the problem. Should I do that? I'll just keep driving the car normally and maybe that'll extend the life a little longer.

Re: 98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

speaking from experience....your trans is probably on its way out. If you have all the money to get it rebuilt spend it on a 5spd swap trust me. I didnt do it because I didnt know any better. I didnt bother looking it up....Now I wish I wouldve done the swap. The difference is night and day. Go for a drive in a 5spd lude and you'll want the swap. I know I did.

Re: 98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

A friend of mine suggested me to put in Royal Purple tranny fluid for my next tranny fluid change. Is that good to do to prolong the auto tranny issue?!?!

Re: 98 Prelude with 150k miles...Help!

My uncle is a master technician and will help me repair the tranny. So we'll see what the damage and cost is going to be. I guess I'll save some money this way.
