Thinking of buying 2000 Honda Prelude

My uncle bought a 2000 honda Prelude brand new and just offered to sell it to me im 19 and this will be my 3rd car. Don't know a whole lot about these cars at all. Its a good deal and just curious as to how these cars handle? I currently have a 2006 Dodge Cummins Diesel that i mostly use for hauling my bikes around since i race Motocross. My 2nd Vehicle is a 99 Honda Civic EX that i just use for up at College. Thanks for the input guys. Just looking for some info on this car. Im sure i will like driving it.

They are quick and fun. Do you know if it is a base or sh model?

What is his asking price and how many miles does it have?

Re: Thinking of buying 2000 Honda Prelude

Theres two models available from 97-01, Base and SH model. If youre looking for handling then you will love the SH, which stands for superior handling.

I hear the base model handles well too so either way you wont be disappointed.

I don't know if it is the SH or the Base. I will find out tomorrow. He is the original owner and it has been garge kept. It has 80,000miles on it. and he is asking $6000 for me since im his nephew. This car is very very well taken care of...

Re: Thinking of buying 2000 Honda Prelude

Yes i got it... Thanks guys... It is a SH and its a manual. 2000 Honda Prelude, Silver, With 80,278miles on it. Very clean car my uncle took really good care of it and didn't drive it much since he just got married and between the two of them they got 5 cars. Now 4 since the Lude is mine... It came with a really nice system. Alpine Touch screen in the dash with two 12in Alpine subs and Dual Compasitors and Polk audio speakers all around. Not very detailed on the system since I still have to go pick up the car this weekend down at my uncles. I will get some pics up of it as soon as i can!

very nice burly! You will not be disappointed with the SH, especially not after you feel the ATTS pulling you through the turns.....you will see what I mean haha

Re: Thinking of buying 2000 Honda Prelude

ATTS in a nutshell, transfers torque between the two front wheels, reducing under steer.
So there is much more control going through turns and you will be able to get back on the gas coming out of the turn much sooner.

but if you wanna get technical about it..

Quote:
A car with a front-wheel-drive power delivery system may provide a traction advantage over rear-wheel drive on slick or wet pavement, but it can also fall prey to understeer - the tendency for a front-driver to push off its intended line nose-first.

The Prelude's newest device, Active Torque Transfer System (ATTS), counters this inclination to push. On-board sensors sample Prelude's wheel speed, steering angle and any lateral slippage, then a computer analyzes the data to see if the car actually follows the driver's chosen steering line. If understeer is detected, the computer sends more engine torque to the outboard front wheel to compensate for slippage and point the nose back into the turn.

The autocross course demonstrated this effect in the first tight corner: as wheels began to push, the system took over in a subtle, magical way, seemingly pulling the car back into the turn to keep the front wheels on course.

It also accomplished the impossible for a front-wheel-drive vehicle by virtually eliminating torque steer, whereby the car pulls to one side when rapidly accelerating or drifts to the other when braking hard.

Are you really sure you want it? I mean, I guess I could take it off of your hands, maybe trade a nice 3rd gen for it. LOL.

Seriously, though, if its got all those improvements, now you got me thinking to find a 5th gen to go along with my 3rd. Congrats on a killer find bro. your gonna love it!

The bike sounds fun, but i already have 1 dirtbike in my garage, thanks to my oldest son. I give you 5 minutes driving the lude, and it will become imposible to pry it out of your fingers. thats how it was with my 90. You may even decide its better than bikes.

You may have a point there. Between my CBR and my Prelude, I can't tel which one I prefer more.

You're gonna love the car Burly. Wish I was able to get that kind of a deal when I was looking for my 5th gen.

I would get it, I'm not sure what they are worth around you but I picked my 2000 Base up for $7500, so thats a great deal. If it is a base if has a bit of over steer since its a FWD car, but you might like it, I do. I would suggest picking it up, great mod car
EDIT: ...should've read the whole thread... Oh well, Gratz on the new lude!!
