SH conversion?

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum and I really want to buy a prelude. Now I have found a 1999 Prelude 5spd and I am pretty sure it is a non-SH. I know that the type SH has the ATTS system which I think will be really important for me to have and is really cool and I think the prelude would be worthless without. Is there any way that I could somehow get the ATTS put into a non-SH prelude? I tried doing some searching but no answers were found :( I currently own a 99 accord and I am part of all the accord forums so I know how to respect all the rules and I am happy to be part of this forum :) All possible help is appreciated!

Re: SH conversion?

from what ive read so far its possible but a lot of work and your probly better to just buy an sh if thats what you want. i just got my lude and its auto so its not an sh but its still a blast so dont call a non-sh worthless because i assure you they arent. :)

Re: SH conversion?

Ok, I did a little more reading and looking around on this forum and I have found that it isn't really a big deal and that the base models are cheaper to work on. I really hope I can come through and buy this car! Forget the atts lolz.

Re: SH conversion?

it looks like if you want to make real power like turbo or something then your better off to get a base manual transmission anyway. what are your plans for your prelude?

Re: SH conversion?

it depends on what your future goals for the car are. An SH is an all around better handling car that can be modified, just not as modified as a base model can be. if you wanna do just bolt ons to your car and u want a better handling car get an SH. if u wanna boost go with a base model, although u can supercharge an SH but it can only handle so mch power before the ATTS isnt functional. but some boost is better than none.

Re: SH conversion?

Yup, as if its never been discussed before, the SH is good for suspension mods, bolt ons, and a piggy back tune to get a little more out of it, especially if you do auto-x.
If you want boost or to do internals, go ahead and get the base model.

Hmm...I would like to do suspension mods as well on it. Are there nice suspension mods and tuning for the base as well?

you will benefit more with an aftermarket suspension on an SH because of the ATTS. base models only come with one sway bar i forget whether its the front or the back. SH models come with both front and back. overall when you do suspension mods, anything fron koni adjustables, coilovers, to even just springs the SH will handle better and u will benefit more from the atts on corners. you could do endlinks, aftermarket sway bars, and just put springs on and let me tell u that car will make other cars wish they could handle like that and thats with aftermarket stuff, when the SH has a stock suspension other cars still have trouble outhandling them.

Re: SH conversion?

Yes, there's good stuff for the suspension for both SH and base.

Also don't forget, you can also get a true LSD for a base tranny later down the line which is as good as or better than ATTS.

Re: SH conversion?

Yea that actually what my friend suggested to me for the base model. I swear if I get this car I will be so happy and I will have a real vtec not the little environmental vtec my accord has lol. I am so pumped for this car. It has 80k miles on it so are there any suggestions for me as to how I can haggle down the price at the used car dealer? it is listed for $7,495. I am hoping I can get about 3-4K for my accord.

Re: SH conversion?

Looks like a pretty solid and clean car there man. Pretty low mileage too. His asking price isn't crazy, but I'm sure you can snag it for just under 7K with some negotiating. Good luck on buying it!

if the timing belt hasn't been done yet, you can knock another 7-800 off the price.

Re: SH conversion?

Looks really clean... Considering all the taxes and fees that come with buying from a dealership, tell them you want $3500 for your car and you'll throw another $2500 out of pocket for it for a grand total of $6000 out the door with all taxes and fees included. If they don't budge, neither should you. Convince them that's your budget and you're either going to give them your business or go to someone who can accept your budget.

The reason I say go in with one fair price in mind is if you go in and low ball them, they obviously won't do that deal and then if you move from it, you prove to them they can talk you into paying more. If they don't want to do it, give them your number and tell them you're wanting a Prelude and you'll have one by the end of the week so if they change their mind and accept your offer, to call you before you buy one from someone else.

That's why I don't want it anymore and I'm happy that I found the base model:) I set up an appointment for tomorrow at 3pm. I am definitely buying the car. If I don't then I will be a very sad person and regret it forever! Wish me luck. Any last minute haggling advice would be loved! When does the timing belt have to be changed for the first time btw?

Re: SH conversion?

Ok I went to look at the car today and was not to to satisfied. The body of the car needed a lot of work, the rotors are grooved, the back right tail light looks like it was hit by a baseball bat lol, and the rims are all scratched to hell. The guy wouldn't go down past 7k so I said screw that and left. My parents don't even want me to get a used car that old anyways, (they want me to get a new car). I really do still have love for this car though.
