Bouncy acceleration?

When I am in pretty much any gear just cruising and then punch the throttle I notice like a shudder or a quick jerky back and forth bounce for a second before I get smooth acceleration. Is this due to the heavy flywheel, a loose throttle cable, or is it just completely normal? It is not something I am worried about, I was just wondering if there was a way to fix it so I got instance smooth acceleration.

Re: Bouncy acceleration?

Long list of things could do this. Worn distributor cap/rotor, old plugs, dirty injectors, clogged fuel filter. Generally, basic maintenance will take care of this

Re: Bouncy acceleration?

I had hesitation and using some AutoRX and Lucas injector cleaner took care of the problem...brought my gas mileage up too. I was filling up twice a week, now I'm filling up once every week and a half. I'm not sure if hesitation equates to what you describe as bouncy acceleration though.

What would happen to me is during acceleration, usually in second or third gear, around 2k to 3.5k the engine would bog, as though I had let off the gas for a moment, then it would pick up as normal. If that's like what you're getting, you might want to see about cleaning your fuel system.

Edit: I've read that a clogged EGR can cause similar hesitations. If you have a lot of miles on the car this might be something to look into also.

Re: Bouncy acceleration?

It is not a bog as much as a bounce like as if something is unbalanced for a second but then the power comes on strong. It is really hard to explain, it is just when i suddenly mash the gas.
