Icon5 Cooling problem, possible water pump?

Hey again!

Ok, so I previously posted about the car overheating at stops and that it might be the radiator fan switch. I ran some tests today and the radiator fan goes on fine.

I hooked up my OBD2 computer reader in live view, started the car, revved it to warm it up, then ran the freeway an exit or so and back. I noticed the temp gauge about half way between C and H. I also heard the radiator fan click on at a stop. All good so far.

I parked the car and noticed the heat gauge rapidly climbing past half way. I popped open the hood with the computer still attached and noticed that the Engine Coolant Temperature was increasing fairly rapidly 230-235deg, 235-240. The weird thing is that when I rev the engine up, the coolant temperature goes back down (and the gauge goes back down to half way rapidly as well -- within a couple of seconds).

Could it be the water pump or a clog in the coolant system?

What do you guys think??

Thanks for your help as always!

Kevin

Re: Cooling problem, possible water pump?

Have you bled the system? There is a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing. Crack it loose and retighten when fluid comes out steady.

Our Honda tech came out and he thought it was the thermostat and replaced it... we'll see today!

i had this prob on my car too - but it was nothing to do with the thermostat, just air in the radiator! bleed it properly and it should be ok
