Engine Swap

I am seriously considering buying a cheap 5th gen lude and swapping the engine. I want to put an h22 type s motor in. isnt this motor made for a prelude? and would it be difficult or easy to swap?
thanks

Re: Engine Swap

Preludes are a pretty difficult engine to take out and put back in. When i say that im talking about hondas. Im swapping mine right now and just rebuilding the engine and I had some problems. If you do decide to do it yourself, make sure you mark everything with white automotive marker and tap everything. Last thing you want to do is have the engine out and not be able to put an engine back in properly. but you are correct the H22 type S motor is the acura type R motor but it can fit in the prelude with no modifications

2nd time i pulled my engine, from start to finish took no longer than 6 hours, including tranny.

2nd time dropping it in, the engine was in in 4 hours, tranny took another 4 hours. did this all by myself mind you, no one else.

and idk how things are up in canook land, but exactly what "acura type-r" are you referring to that came with an H22??? can't be an integra type-r.
cuz we have zero acura's that had H22's in them, down here at least.

Re: Engine Swap

Maybe he just saw the type s and thought i ment an rsx engine?
Anyways, the h22 type s motor comes with 220hp and 163tq, is that correct? i found a site that sells one and it says it comes with an LSD hydrolic tranny. does that mean its going to put power to both my front wheels?

Re: Engine Swap

i hate when ppl post info that they no sh1t about.

dude dont' listen to that guy that said the lude is a bitch to pull the motor. as nick said it's pretty phuckin easy. i've pulled two and prior to that i had only pulled a camaro motor and a civic motor. it is easy as hell w/ help and proper instruction. my boy bustr (PZ member) has pulled motor and tranny in uder 6 hours several times.

as for the type s...
here is some good tech info --> http://asia.vtec.net/beystock/honda/preludes/

and here are some specs ------> http://www.carsplusplus.com/specs199...ude_type_s.php

Re: Engine Swap

its my understanding that there are three types of 5th gen preludes. The base model model with 195hp, type sh with 200hp and atts, and a type s with 223hp and atts that was only availabe in japan. so if i buy a base model (which i heard you should do if you plan on having more than 250hp) and put a type s engine in it, will that be alright? or does it need to have atts? and does that type s motor in the link i put above come with lsd which will give pwer to both my front tires?
im a little confused if, someone set me straight. and thatnks for the info so far guys, it has been helpful

Re: Engine Swap

It's my understanding that you should learn to do a few things.

1) SEARCH
2) Read the forum stickies
3) Read the 5th gen RESOURCE guide.
4) READ THIS FORUM STICKY, this is the DIY section, so wrong thread for the wrong forum. ~moved~

I was like "Uhhhh?" when I read that lol.

An LSD isn't part of a motor...just for future reference. But yes, the transmission that comes with the motor in the link you provided is equipped with an LSD.

Re: Engine Swap

I just recently swapped out my frankenstein out of my lude and it took 3 hours to get out and half hour to get back in. The engine going in just timed when the motor mounts where all in. i had to hook everything up after. I agree with some people about this being a little hard because the ludes have alot more stuff than other hondas usually do. good luck and research is your friend
