Icon5 Best significant, inexpensive, CARB legal HP boost?

My friend has a 1999 Prelude SH which has the H22. What would be the best way to get a somewhat significant and inexpensive horsepower boost while keeping the car street legal and using CARB exempt parts? The only mod on the car right now are DC headers.

Re: Best significant, inexpensive, CARB legal HP boost?

There aren't any. Anything you do will effect the emissions (including your DC header), and anything that will give you a significant gain in power won't be cheap. This is a recording.

Re: Best significant, inexpensive, CARB legal HP boost?

well let's take "inexpensive" out of the picture. what would be a CARB legal option, then? i havent looked yet, but id think there'd be a CARB exempt turbo kit for the h22. i know GReddy makes one for the ka24de (240sx).

**** the polar bears.
Cali is just run by democrats who like squandering money to crackheads and illegal immigrants while taking away from the working people and then wonder why they don't have enough tax money for the things that matter... Wait, that's the entire U.S.
My bad.

Re: Best significant, inexpensive, CARB legal HP boost?

i know, i dont get how i cant put an sr20det into a 240sx because it "burns up too much gas" or because it "pollutes" too much. its a bunch of bull****, an rb25det puts out almost the same amount of CO2 as a ka24de(t). if they wanted to cut down on emissions then why the hell do they allow SUVs on the road?

I wish, but I'm still in school and I don't have the money. Eventually I WILL leave Cali... or we could start a revolution and take over the state. Who's down?

cali is in the doodoo hole right now..............you could just take your header off, at least it would sound fast? or you could just do the right thing............and start flying airplanes, those jawnts always go faster.

Last edited by TomCruizin; 05-12-2009 at 10:24 PM. Reason: our cars have a header, not headers

OMFG! I can't believe it. I completely forgot about nitrous. Honestly, I've never used it in a car, but I know the different ways of introducing it into the engine. Which would be better: dry, single point, or direct port?

Re: Best significant, inexpensive, CARB legal HP boost?

a direct port would be safest, but overkill on a small-medium shot.

for a mild shot, a wet setup is far better than dry. much, much safer.

Yeah, I'm smart enough not to live in the dry, brush areas. I'm near the coast, where it's nice and moist.... including the pussy. If it wasn't for the emission standards I'd love it here.

Get an ebay chip. I hear they give you 15hp and are CARB legal..... j/p. I would do Intake, headers, exhaust remove a/c and ps. Then maybe a mild tune with a s100 unit

Maybe I should just tell him to paint a racing stripe on his car. I hear it can create a significant HP boost.
