Need some help

I'm thinking about buying a 1998 Honda Prelude (coupe). I'm wondering what all I can do to the motor as well as the entire car to make it quicker as far as acceleration. It has the stock engine in it (2.2L DOHC 4 Cyl.16 Valve). It's also automatic.

Re: Need some help

hmm i wouldnt go for automatic if your looking for speed.. go with manual transmission because it allows you to shift. automatic is for regular driving only, cant do much with automatic , plus i think putting money into an automatic to go fast is a waste of money.. get manual and put bolt ons like cold air intake, header, exhaust, then work from there.

If you have a job that pays, then get the auto (after checking carfax's and doing research to see if it's been taken care of) save up and do a tranny swap. From there you've got your basic bolt on's (mentioned by 2nd poster) after that it's up to you. Whether you want just N2O for the occasional kick your ass, turbo/supercharged for the in your face or N/A to show what a Japanese motor can really do! (don't forget any of these can be done while still getting better gas mileage than a v8)

Re: Need some help

cheap, fast, reliable <------ you can only pick two. if you want something fast i would highly recommend converting to 5spd.

try searching around and reading about other people's builds and look through all the stickies, as they can be a major help.
