Vtec Problem I Think???

So over the weekend I put in my silencer for my Apex N1.
My cat has been blown for some time, but now it's got a meaner than normal rattle.
It threw a code finally, which means my 02 sensor is burned out.
I'm going to replace the cat with a carsound/magnaflow and a new 02.
But I've run in to a whole new problem.
When I hit VTEC it doesn't hit as hard, it sounds hella meaner probably due to the totally busted up ceramic piece inside the cat.
But it's like just a vtec sound and not vtec power.
And it should actually be faster since the ceramic piece is all broken since I get more flow.
What I'm saying is, I know my car and I know it's not hitting as hard.
I'm about to go get my valves adjusted but I'm wondering if I should even do that if my engine is on the way out.
Maybe a new vtec solenoid perhaps I'm not sure?
And yes my oil level is at full, so that isn't the problem.
Thoughts?
Advice?
Thanks guys.

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

the internals of the cat could be completely clogging the outlet, which would hinder performance a bit. let us know what happens w/ the new cat.

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

hmm maybe try cleaning the vtec solenoid filter first before replacing the whole solenoid

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

I can't get my cat welded on till next week Mon-Tues, so I'll probably hollow it out tonight and see how that works. As for the vtec solenoid filter, I wasn't aware there was a filter. How do I go about cleaning this?

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

My money is on the VTEC solenoid filter. If you know for a fact that VTEC is engaging, then that's pretty much all it could be. Your busted-ass cat isn't helping either. After you get both of those taken care of and you still have the problem let us know. We are geniuses after all.

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

Replace the 02 sensor?
I was wondering, how would I know if my 02 sensor is burned out?
I dont want to replace that too if it's not needed...
It's kind of pricey.

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

Get a hold of the Helms and look how up how to test the O2 sensor to make sure it's working properly. Probably just need an ohm-meter.

Re: Vtec Problem I Think???

*Update*
So I got my cat welded on today and everything runs fine again.
Vtec as strong as ever etc.
One thing worries me though.
My 02 Sensor has White charring around the holes/sensor.
Does this mean it is burned out?
I'm waiting to see if a code shows up.
Also, what are some reasons as to why my cat got all broken up, am I running too rich?
Cause it was REALLY mangled.
