Problems with Alarm, Please help

I just purchased a 1998 honda prelude today and the car's alarm was ripped out from the previous owner.

the issue now is the car will start 50% of the time. The previous owner told me the trick is to wait for the green light to go away and then turn the key. after the car starts he recommends to release the key slowly (key still in ignition).

How do i fix this? Is there a way that i can not have to do that?

I dont really want to buy another factory alarm.

Re: Problems with Alarm, Please help

sounds to me like it not the alarm. sounds like an ignition switch. there is an honda recall on the 5th gens ignition switch. i would call up honda when you can.... tell them you have a problem w/ the ignition switch and see if it is covered. if not its not hard to buy one and change it out.

Thanks. I found the recall information online and will call honda tomorrow.

I hope that is the issue. I dont have the factory remote to disarm the alarm, so i was going to buy a remote and program it myself.

What's weird is sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it will shut off immediately but the engine never dies while driving.

u might have to end up buying aftermarket alarm. try recall first then take it to a shop and have them install you a new alarm.. besides it will be useful for protection.
