Engine Swap!

What is the biggest and best engine you can fit into a 5th gen? what are normal engines that people put into theirs? any links of engines that are great to swap out with? please post pics if you have swapped another engine into yours!

my engine has recently reached 200k and i would love to do plenty of upgrades to it but i don't want to put a ton into the engine and have it puke on me. so i was wondering what people had the best with what didn't work and any pics to show off engine swaps!

anyone ever thought about putting a S2000 engine into it? will it even fit?

Re: Engine Swap!

To be honest, your best bet is to swap in another h22 or rebuild the one you got. You can fit a K24 motor in I believe, hasport has just come out with motor mounts (it may just be for a 4th gen) but anything other than an h22 is just a pain in the ass to put in.

h22's have a decent amount of aftermarket support, and won't cost you money for custom fabrication and you'll be much happier with it.

S2000 motors are mounted way differently because s2000's are RWD.

H22 is your best bet. Take my word for it. Seriously.

Re: Engine Swap!

For just a regular daily driver car, I would definitely agree with the H22 motor swap. It's going to fit, it shouldn't require a whole lot of messing around with to fit in, at the end of the day you will be saving yourself soooo much grief. If you're looking to really put some time into it, and a good piece of change, look into balancing your car overall with a rear wheel drive. I'm starting to explore some of the options involved in a project of that magnitude, fabricating a tunnel, installing a whole new motor and drive train, etc. Just a thought to remember, the stock 5th gens have a 63/37 weight ratio which is just pitiful. Putting a bigger motor in will only through your weight off more.

Re: Engine Swap!

Thanks 4mman... i know h22 would be the most simplest and quickest and it would fit some of the stuff i got on it now... (which is only air intake) but i dont think i want to go as far as making it RWD im not a crazy good mechanic i havent ever done an engine swap myself but im sure i could figure it out with some help.

i would like some power along with easiest installation i dont want to throw something crazy in... the s2000 idea was my friends and i figured id throw it up there for people to argue over. but is there any company that makes a good h22 or a slightly more powerful engine that is very close to the h22 for a decent price. im just looking to drop my miles back to 0.0 so i can have a sturdy base to upgrade. (turbo)

H22,h23,f22 and a the DOHC F block can't think of the # right now. The would be the "drop in " engines.

f20b

a destroked h22 that IMO isn't really worth the effort and money that you have to put into it. Unless you are just wanting to do something that isn't seen a lot.

Re: Engine Swap!

ok i think im gonna go with another h22 so i don't have to modify my bay and how much is a new transmission gonna cost me cause thats got over 200k on it too? should i replace both at the same time? any one know any sights that sell a h22 for a decent price or a site that sells a good quality engine? (links would be greatly appreciated!) like i said i want to go with a boost after this.

or should i just get my engine rebuilt?

Re: Engine Swap!

Hmotorsonline.com is a real respectable company. I ordered my h22 from there back in 2004.

Since you do wanna go turbo, here is my suggestion.
Get an h22 to just swap in, and have your car running. The biggest issue wit this is gonna be getting an OBD2 motor, or converting an OBD1 to OBD2.

I suggest you keep the motor that's coming out of the car, and built it as a spare motor for boost. If you're gonna want some good power (300+) and want it to last a while, I strongly suggest building a motor for boost.

Re: Engine Swap!

if you have the option, OBD1 >>> OBD2. end of story. easier to swap, easier to tune, etc.

they'll tell you when you buy it if its either OBD1 or 2, or they'll tell you what year its from.

if you wanna make it easier for yourself, instead of doin what shoof suggestion which entails: pulling old motor, install new motor, build old motor, pull new motor, and drop in the old built motor...

you could skip some steps and just build the new motor, that way your only doing 1 swap.

I'm not trying to be an ass but please tell me you know the only company that made H22's is Honda. (or a slightly more powerful engine very close to an H22) like a Camry motor???

To my knowledge SITES don't make engines. Just like the last guy said it hasn't been produced since 2001 so ALL H22's are used.

I usually just stay quite but it sounds like you asked questions without even doing the slightest research. I'm surprised the guys actually gave you straight answers. end/rant

Re: Engine Swap!

Just so all you tards know, there are places that create their own blocks. I know of one place because a buddy of mine bought a GSR motor for his civic there.

http://www.dartheads.com/products/en...es-blocks.html

I don't believe there are h22's readily available like these, but I am almost positive that there will be in the future. I may be wrong, but I believe that Blake (98vtec) has a block that has been built by a company.

yes i know the car has not been produced since 01 im not completely oblivious!!! and i wasnt talking about a completely original H22 or even an original honda motor... what i was talking about was custom made blocks or if any company made their own version of the H22 like what Smok3y was talking about... have done some research its a plausible question...

Re: Engine Swap!

ive seen a v6 cl motor in a 97+ prelude.
but i would would go wid the h23dohc vtec blue top. Parts are similar to the h22.
OR......
I would get a type-s red top h22
those got a lot of power, they were tuned by honda an are very rare but worth the money. its like a b18-c5 or a b16-type-R
they are deff worth it

Re: Engine Swap!

Have a 99 prelude and it has a Honda Civic computer in it and it was bought that way. The original owner converted it to a manual and rigged up the civic computer and was wondering if it was an easy fix or should I just leave it that way?

Re: Engine Swap!

If you're looking to not be overwhelmed with drivetrain swapping it then I'd stick to an engine build for FWD. Aaron Cook did a 350 swap in one once and by the time he sold the car he'd already lost all of the money invested.
