4 wheel steer light how to reset

I have just bought a 1997 Prelude 2.2vti vtec with tiptronic gearbox and with 4 wheel steer and the 4-W/S light is staying on all the time. I have tried clearing it by bridgeing the diagnostic socket 2 pin one , and following the intructions below with no success, I am getting a blink code of 5 long and one short flashes . Can any one help please . Cheers Tony

. Apply the hand brake.
2. Short the service connector pins with a paper clip or something similar.
3. Turn the steering wheel to CLOCKWISE (right) 45-65 degrees and hold it that way.
4. Turn the ignition switch to II (on) position but DON'T start your engine.
You'll see that all your warning lights will go on and off, don't pay attention to them.
5. After your 4WS light goes OFF, turn the steering wheel to CENTRE (turn it left) position within 4 seconds and hold it still.
6. When your 4WS light turns ON, turn your steering wheel CLOCKWISE again to 45-60 degrees and hold still (again within 4 seconds).
7. When the 4WS light goes OFF, turn the wheel to the centre position again within 4 seconds and hold it still.
8. If your 4WS light blinks TWICE then you succeeded.
If it stays on after this that means you failed, so simply turn the ignition off and go back to step one and try again. The tricky part with this procedure is that you should do all the steering inputs within 4 seconds so keep it in mind.
If you succeeded, turn your ignition off, remove the short on the service connector, start your engine and check if it's working.
This may look complicated but it is very easy, it only takes a few minutes

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

iv had that same problem since iv purchased my car, but the mechanic who tried to fix it ended up messing up my windows instead, trust me mate, its probably going to cost alot to fix as its an electrical problem, and usually the source of an electrical problem takes time (money) to identify.

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

Thanks for your input , but there are only two connectors both blue one a three pin one a two pin to get the codes and delete the warning light's so it should be simple to do once you know the procedure .I am getting an error code of 5 long blinks and one short one blink , there has to be a member out there who knows what to do surely . I have been intouch with the previous owner who said the 4 W/S warning light came on approx every 6 months . Honda could find nothing wrong but charged 70 to turn it of . Plus offered to do a Geometry check for about 200 . Cheers Tony

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

i have done it on my lude - 3 times in the last week - i think i have a cut in one of the wheel speed sensors and whenever it rains the 4ws light comes on.

just make sure that the paper clip is pushed all the way into the connector until it wont go any further. before you turn the ignition make sure that you already have ur steering wheel turned.
if there is a genuine problem with one of the main steering angle sensors then the light wont reset

Are you on preludeUK too??

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

okay so i tried to look this up for you. code 51 (in US it flashes the abs light). states bad
motor lock... meaning the abs modulator is bad. now i don't exactly know if your codes are teh same due to the 4ws. hope this might help.

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

After you short the connector do you leave the pin inside the connector still shorting it while you go through the procedure? Or do you take it out before you start the battery?
My 4ws light has been on for a couple of weeks and really want it back.
Thanks

Re: 4 wheel steer light how to reset

I have had a 94 Prelude VTEC since new. These days I have to reset this often (need to look at why). A long time ago, a mechanic told me how to do this - at least for my model - very simply. Disconnect the battery lead for 5 seconds and reconnect it. Job done. All you have to fix is the clock... I hope it works for all models.
