boost question

I have a 99 prelude base. my friend has a spare t28 turbo (off a 300zx) with extra parts. first off, would a t28 fit the h22? Im not looking to spend $8g's and Im not looking for 500 whp..Im thinking around 6 psi (from what ive read) I would like to keep everything stock for budget purposes.

so my questions are:

how much boost can the stock h22 handle and still be reliable?
I know im going to need the turbo manifold and other piping, but what else would i need?
any ballpark cost estimates?
more questions later.

I know alot of you are going to tell me to read every forced induction forum on here, but Im just looking for some general answers and advice before i even consider doing it.

thanks!

Re: boost question

wayyyyyy too small of a turbo. you'd make more power by blowing into your throttle body with your lungs.

Re: boost question

Im also looking at getting a turbo. Ive made up my mind after driving a friends turbo prelude. He only has 7 psi, but it was perfect. It was plenty fast enough for the street. Im not going heigher then 7 maybe 8 psi. Plus I also dont want to have to change a bunch of oem parts so that it can handle the boost.

Also twin turbos have one smaller turbo then the other. They do this so you have less turbo lag. Maybe hes selling you the smaller turbo.

Re: boost question

both of you need to check this thread out, especially the "why PSI doesn't mean anything" one.
So, you wanna go turbo, huh?

stop thinking in terms of how much "psi" you wanna run. rather, start thinking about how much power you wanna make.

even tho its off a twin turbo inline 6 doesn't mean anything. most of the time, a STOCK twin turbo setup will have SMALLER turbo's than a single turbo system cuz there will be 3 cylinders feeding into each turbo as opposed to 6 (a 6 cylinder engine for example). stock turbo'd engines also have relatively smaller turbo's since manufacturers are more focused on fuel economy and reliability rather than raw power.

Re: boost question

a t28 would work on the h22....but u'd be choking the motor after ~6500ish RPMs.

That small of a turbo won't be good for much more than 230-240hp....if you can even make that much power without going out of the turbo's efficiency range. If you over spin the turbo trying to make more boost/more power...ur blowing hot air, instead of slightly heated air.

Ur gonna have to change ur exhaust, header, fuel injectors, fuel pump, intake, add some oil lnes, add an intercooler, get a new computer that's tuneable, plus make a hole in ur oil pan for the turbo to drain.
