'97 SH with a possible blown head gasket

Hi, I am new to this forum and Prelude's in general, but I have a bit of an issue. For anyone who is a member of other forums and already read this post there I apologize but it is an expensive issue, and I would like to get as much info as possible on it. So thanks for your time and patience. That being said:

I have a car that burns oil and coolant and I never see any puddles or smell anything in the cabin which lead me to believe it was consuming both. I took it to a shop and after running a compression test they concluded that my head gasket is blown. Sucks, but hey the car went 150K and still cruises. If I need to replace the head gasket/hone the head, that's fine.

However, I have spoken to a bunch of places and a few of them (one of which is the most reputable Honda shop in the region) said that you can't just replace the head gasket on the Prelude SH of it will just crap out on you. They said it has something to do with the silicon in the walls of the cylinders. They wont even rebuild the engine! They said, all you can do is buy a new one...

Is this true? Thanks for everyone's help.

^^^What he said. And if your around NY thats a hell of a deal dude. I would definitely hop on that. 400 for a HG, T-Belt, and WP is like 1/6th of the price a regular shop would charge you. Seriously. Some places charge over 2k just for a HG replacement alone (Not really on 4 cylinders, but the labor charges are outrageous)

And My last name is Simone too

Re: '97 SH with a possible blown head gasket

the only other thing you might have to do is get the head machined. did the motor ever get real hot from loss of coolant? if so then you may have warped your head.
