(auto tensioner) My Horrible story

Just bored so i though id share my story if any one wants to read.

car is a 1998 honda prelude type sh.

"This is my horrible story about an auto tensioner."

Alright its Friday afternoon and i just got done installing some brain crower valvesprings and retainers, BC stage II cam shafts and AEM Cam gears. i did the whole install by myself, felt really proud!! put everything back on, and she sounds beautiful!! i drove normally, wanting the cams to break in first before i push it. so i drove normally.
It's sunday afternoon now and i felt like pushing this baby. wow my engine feels stronger, i can feel myself pressed back against my seat as i engage in vtec!! i loved it!
I went to go pick up my girl and we both drove to the movies. as we got close to the theatre, my engine started to make a clinking noise. it sounded really really loud on idle and the clinking and clicking noise continue to go. all of a sudden as i press the gas to go,my car started to jump. going slowly about 10 mph, my car is jumping back and fourth. i am really pissed off now because i dont know what the hell is wrong my motor. my girl is scared now too. lol.. anyways we made it to the movies!! went and watched "The Haunting in Conneticut" Really scary movie!! my girl held on my arm through out the whole movie, man my arm was hurting from her hands gripping on them everytime they show scary scenes. and there are alot of scary scenes!
anyways got done with the movie and its now dark outside. we both got into the car and i started the engine. the car starts but the loud idling noise is still there, sounded kinda like a chainsaw. then all of a sudden my engine dies!!! i tried starting it back up but it will not start. nooo!!!!!! my girl is now worried. im worried, i pop the hood, luckily i got the valve cover cut for cam gear access. pull on the timing belt.. oh my god!! it is loose . the belt has no tension whatsoever. it felt like a rubber band. i look at my two beautiful AEM cam gears and both of my timing marks are off.. my exhaust cam is pointing
9 o'clock and my intake cam is pointing around 6 or 5 o'clock. i said ****!!! by the time i realize my timing was screwed i had 4-5 attempts on trying to start my car already. now i have no choice but to call a tow truck in the middle of theatre parking lot full of people still coming and going from watching movies. i am no way going to leave my car here overnight!! too many valuable things i got install in this baby, including whole sound system.
well got the tow truck, towed it home paid $110. next day after work, got home and opened up the car. my straight target was the auto tensioner since my belt has no tension at all. ah ha!! i was right! auto tensioner was broken. that stupid tensioner thing was not even touching the pulley lever.
damm i finally read about converting to manual tensioner and found out that upgrading your motor , you need to convert to manual.. too late now!!! i just hope i didnt bent any valves.. since my motor died on idle. and i did try to start car again too many times at the theatre.
well just bought a manual conversion kit for h22. well be putting it on tomorrow and redo timing hope she starts up fine!! wish me luck!! otherwise i gotta check for broken or bent valves.!! what do you guys think.. ..

hard to tell sounds like you ran it for a while and tried to crank on it too much, I'd say you have a couple bent exhaust valves, hopefully not good luck.

Re: (auto tensioner) My Horrible story

yeah man.. this happened to me about a year ago.. i was pulling off the freeway.. i like my tunes also.. i hit the gas as the light turned green and got little response.. so i hit mute on my stereo and yeah.. clackity clack... oh god.. i turned off my engine.. a friend saw me pulled over and he helped push my car to safety and told me it was my timing belt.. digging in we found it was the tensioner. didn't swap to manual but I also didn't bend any valves.. good luck with your swap..
