Icon5 Premium Fuel

Hello,

I'm in the market for a 99-01 Prelude. I noticed that it says premium fuel only. Does it really matter? What would happen if i used 87 octane fuel? Thanks.

I asked the same question as you before buying my first Lude, finnally two months ago i got it! A 1997 Base w/ 88xxx miles. Anyways, I didn't like the fact at first that it only took premium fuel thinking it might be expensive, but after doing the math, its only like $3 more than to fill it up with regular lol.
Anyways, this honda engine revs pretty high, so there is going to be alot of wear if it doesn't get the correct lubercation. It requires that at least 91 octane and synthetic oil be used for this reason. It will definatly take the 87 oct, but it will wear out the engine quick and probably knock, therefore decreasing performace. In my opinion, just pay the extra $3 at the pump, it will save you in the long run
Get the prelude, its the best!

Re: Premium Fuel

Yes, it does matter.
Honda says to put premium fuel in it, so that's what should go in it. If they print it on the gas door and gauge cluster, one would be safe to think that it's probably important.
