1st, 3rd and 5th gear almost gone...

So I did a search and could not find anything on this (maybe I just cant use the search like most of us newbs).
I was driving home from work yesterday and all the top gears (1st 3rd and 5th) are really hard to get into. IE I have to push my shifter all the way to the plastic to get it into gear. Then I hit a bump in the road and all of the sudden everything is fine and all the gears work great. Today they slowly got worse again so now I have to push it all the way up to get in gear again.

I do not know much about transmissions but it seems like something must be loose (duh I know). Anyone know what might cause this? Maybe there's an easy fix? I am rather mechanically inclined so if I could save some money and do this myself that would be great.

Thanks for any advice in advance

Cameron

well I am starting house sitting today, and I will actually have room to jack my car up and see if I can tinker with it a bit (my appt complex has a one way road so no room). If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.. so far the plan is to jack it up and follow the from the shifter to the tranny..all while having my gf play with the shifter.

Any suggestions on what to look for would be great.

Thanks

Well to update you all, I traced all the cables to the transmission, couldn't find anything. Everything looked good and was tight/in place.

Dang, I was hoping this wasn't going to cost an arm and a leg, but I will have to take it in.

I do not know much about transmissions, but from what I know synchros can't just get out of place and a bump put them back in (they wear out), so that's why I thought it might be something a little loose.

Also, it has been a little messed up for 5 days now, but seems to be doing fine. I still have all my gears, but I am rev-matching every shift to hopefully prolong getting it fixed until I can afford it.

Does anyone else have any ideas on what this could be? (and thanks Smok3y for your input)

Cameron

Re: 1st, 3rd and 5th gear almost gone...

So an update to this problem:

I was driving to work on friday morning and while shifting into 5th my car made a clunk and now I can push my shifter in all directions without any resistance. After tinkering with it for a little while, my friend and I determined it was one of my shift linkage cables. The one that negotiates forward-backward movement of the shifter was snapped. I looked it up on hondaautomotiveparts.com and found this:

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...y5=SHIFT+LEVER

Anyone know of a cheaper place to get the linkage cable? Its #6 on that page and is $250.

Thanks,

Cameron
